Federal Equipment Company has been a leading supplier of marine deck machinery and specialized weapons and material handling systems. The company, now part of Fairbanks Morse Defense, is rapidly growing.

Job Profile/Summary

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for inspection planning, assisting in Root Cause and Corrective Action (including analysis of nonconformities), compliance to internal and external customer requirements, assisting in internal/external audits, assisting in process inspections, assisting in Calibration Management, and assisting in Continual Improvement.

This role is carried out in the primary FEC location. This role may require some travel (local and national) for supplier and/or sister-company audits, customer site visits, as well as other Manufacturing environments within FEC as required. This is a salary employee, based out of Cincinnati, OH, and reports to the Quality Manager.

FEC team members wear many hats and cover several areas of responsibility. This position is no different. This role will fulfill duties as described below, as well as technical and clerical duties that arise when bottlenecks present themselves. This position is one of proactivity, continuous improvement, and integrity for the overall quality of the company.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, development and implementation of standards, methods, and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of company products in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with both internal (manufacturing, engineering, project management) and external customers to ensure quality standards are in place and are being properly executed.
  • Performs analysis on reported nonconformities and discrepancies related to assembly, process, mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Further investigates the cause for discrepancies and nonconformities to assist Quality Manager in developing disposition and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Writes inspection procedures and assists in reviewing and evaluating in-process rejections and obtaining proper product dispositions.
  • Analyzes quality performance for production and collaborates with Quality Management and Operations Management to develop improvement plans for identified problem areas.
  • Serves as a secondary designee to interface to customers and suppliers for quality-related matters as required.
  • Assists Quality Manager by continuously reviewing quality output, practice, and procedure to ensure the customer requirements are met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and a minimum of two (2) years of prior relevant experience.
  • Ability to access ITAR controlled items and/or articles (Requires U.S. citizenship).
  • Experience with an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • Manufacturing process experience (assembly, inspection, test).
  • Previous experience reading/interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments, (digital AND dial/analog - micrometers, calipers) test sets, and gauging equipment.
  • Ability to read customer drawings (including GD&T) and specifications.
  • Ability to operate Windows based computers and working knowledge of typical office programs - i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
