Position Title: Weld EngineerReports To: Manufacturing Engineer Manager
Job Summary:We are seeking a skilled Weld Engineer to join our team at a federal equipment manufacturing company. The Weld Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining welding processes that align with federal requirements and industry standards. This individual will work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure welding operations are efficient, compliant, and meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Welding Process Development:
Design, develop, and optimize welding processes for federal equipment manufacturing.Create and maintain welding procedures (WPS/PQR) in compliance with industry standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, ISO).Evaluate and select appropriate welding techniques, materials, and equipment to meet project requirements.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure all welding operations meet federal and company quality standards.Conduct inspections, testing, and validation of welds using methods such as visual inspection, ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle inspection (MT), or dye penetrant inspection (PT).Collaborate with Quality Assurance to address non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure adherence to federal regulations, including ITAR, ASME, MIL-STD, and other applicable standards.Maintain detailed documentation of welding processes, certifications, and inspection results.Support audits by regulatory bodies and customers to verify compliance.
Training and Certification:
Train and certify welding personnel to ensure they meet required qualifications.Provide technical guidance and support to welders and production staff on proper welding techniques and safety practices.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve welding efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance quality.Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to optimize welding operations.Monitor and analyze weld performance data to drive process improvements.
Collaboration:
Work closely with design and manufacturing engineers to address welding requirements during the design phase.Partner with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve welding-related issues.Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source high-quality welding materials and equipment.
Safety:
Promote and enforce adherence to safety protocols and PPE requirements in welding operations.Conduct risk assessments for welding processes and implement mitigation strategies.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.Equivalent work experience with certifications may be considered.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in welding engineering or a related role, preferably in a federal equipment or regulated industry.Experience with advanced welding techniques (e.g., TIG, MIG, robotic welding).
Certifications:
Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred.Familiarity with AWS, ASME, and MIL-STD standards.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of welding processes, materials, and metallurgy.Proficiency in CAD software and welding simulation tools.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.Strong communication and collaboration skills.Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
Other Requirements:
Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance if required by federal regulations.Familiarity with ITAR and EAR compliance.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing, walking, and lifting up to [weight limit] as needed.Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required during welding operations.
Work Environment:
Manufacturing facility with exposure to welding fumes, heat, and noise.Flexible to work different shifts or overtime as production demands.
