Description & Requirements

The Federal Reserve is poised for its most important leadership transition in decades, with the independence of monetary policy at stake. War in the Middle East is also significantly complicating the US economic outlook and the path ahead for interest rates.

What kind of Fed chair will Kevin Warsh be? How much will rising energy prices feed into overall inflation? And why has the US economy remained so resilient in the face of persistent headwinds?

These questions are at the heart of decisions taken by financial markets and governments around the world, and the outcome will determine the livelihoods of millions of consumers and businesses. We are seeking a Federal Reserve and US Economy reporter in Washington to help set the agenda on this critical beat.

You’ll interpret Fed statements and speeches; spot economic trends and bring them to life for the reader; deliver sharp analysis; and write with authority. You’ll also produce scoops and enterprise stories on a range of issues, including Fed governance, personnel moves and the intersection of Fed policy and politics – ensuring that Bloomberg’s Fed coverage is required reading for Wall Street traders, policymakers, business leaders and consumers alike.

We'll trust you

+ Cover the Fed's policy decisions, speeches, reports and personnel moves while breaking news on the central bank

+ Pitch stories on various topics to give readers a richer understanding of the inner workings of the Fed, including the key policymakers driving decisions and the complex issues underlying those debates

+ Work under tight deadlines and collaborate with fellow Fed reporters, as well as with reporters and editors in the US and around the world

+ Take risks and find ways to innovate while maintaining the highest standards for accuracy, integrity and speed

+ Contribute across a variety of Bloomberg platforms and formats, such as video, radio, television, podcasts, Bloomberg.com and Bloomberg Businessweek magazine

+ Chart and visually display data to help your stories stand out

You'll need to have:

+ The ability to turn complex data into a narrative accessible to market professionals and casual readers

+ Knowledge of digital platforms and an ability to develop graphics a plus

+ 4+ years of business journalism experience

+ This position will require regular travel to cover Fed speeches
