The Veterinary Forensic Sciences Laboratory (VFSL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a motivated Federal Work Study Student Assistant to join our team. This position supports work at the intersection of veterinary medicine, animal welfare, and forensic science. The position will begin Fall 2026 and may continue into subsequent semesters based on performance and funding.

Work in person during office hours, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, excluding UF holidays.

Job Description:

The Veterinary Forensic Sciences Laboratory (VFSL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a detail-oriented, reliable, and motivated Federal Work Study Student Assistant to support both laboratory and administrative operations within a fast-paced forensic sciences environment. This role offers hands-on experience in a unique academic–forensic laboratory setting, providing exposure to real-world casework support, research activities, and operational workflows.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, discretion with sensitive information, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team. This position is approximately 10 hours per week.
Some key responsibilities of this position are:
• Maintain inventory and organization of laboratory supplies and consumables
• Assist with routine laboratory audits and quality control tracking
• Support scheduling and coordination of meetings, including preparation of materials and documentation
• Prepare, edit, and manage documents, spreadsheets, and internal reports
• Assist with daily administrative operations including filing, photocopying, meeting minutes, and internal communications
• Support coordination of VFSL events, trainings, and outreach activities
• Assist with data organization and mapping projects, including basic geospatial data entry and support using ArcGIS
• Perform other related duties and special assignments as needed

Expected Salary:

$15.00 / hour

Required Qualifications:

Must be a current UF student
Must be eligible for Fall semester Federal Work Study
Work in person during office hours, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, excluding UF holidays.

Preferred:

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Independent, creative
thinker who can collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Courteous, reliable, and punctual.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Graphic design skills, including creating publications, social media graphics, and infographics.
• Experience with Photoshop, and other Adobe Creative Suite design software.
• Exposure to or interest in geospatial analysis using ArcGIS or related mapping platforms.
