Description of Work
Position currently qualifies for a telework option. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
This position is located in the Food & Drug Protection Division. The Food & Drug Protection Division has five functioning sections, including the Food Section, the Dairy Section, the Feed Section, the Drug Section, and the Administrative Services Section. In addition, analytical support is provided to the Food & Feed Sections by the Food & Drug Protection Division's six laboratory branches, i.e. Feed Laboratory, Fertilizer Laboratory, Food Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, Residue Laboratory, and Pesticide Formulations Laboratory. The Agricultural Science Center Laboratory also performs analytical services for other divisions of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and other state agencies.
The Division protects the health, welfare, and economic interests of consumers of foods, drugs, livestock feeds, fertilizers, and medical devices by insuring, through inspections and analysis, that these products are wholesome and properly labeled. Our laboratories have the responsibility to provide accurate, traceable, and defensible data to support Division programs and protect NC consumers. Utilizing a combination of standardized and in-house procedures and a variety of equipment, the labs are charged with assuring samples are received, prepared, and tested under the highest level of expertise.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Feed Compliance Officer II in the enforcement of the North Carolina Commercial Feed Law of 1973 and its associated rules and regulations. This assistance will focus on four program areas: (1) Sample Management - official sampling of feed for quality; (2) Registration/Labeling - management of the Agriculture Regulatory System for product registration; (3) Investigations/Recalls - feed consumer and industry complaints and product recalls; and (4) assistance with the administration of the Farm Feed Testing Program (forage testing).

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in animal science, poultry science or related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in animal production, feed manufacturing or other feed related industry, research or compliance work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
