    About this Role:
    The Health Care Pathway Fellow will play a central role in supporting Heights’ Health Care Career Pathway programming. The Fellow will help introduce high school students to a wide array of healthcare opportunities by co-developing and delivering enrichment modules. The Fellow will also support one-on-one student advising, assist with career exploration, and help students apply to internships, externships, and certifications.  We are seeking a Fellow to start in mid-September and continue through May.

    Beyond classroom and workshop delivery, the Fellow will serve as a consistent point of contact and near-peer support for students enrolled in programming at 2-3 partner high schools. They will work closely with Career Pathways and school-based  staff on logistics, coordination, and to ensure students are progressing toward career and college readiness. Finally, the Fellow will support class facilitation, student academic progress, as well as helping students strengthen professional skills, while accessing resources for their next steps in education or employment.

    Weekly Schedule: 12-17 hours per week, Mondays - Fridays, hours TBD between 9:00am - 5:30pm to be arranged with manager

    You’ll be responsible for:
    • Committing to set weekly time blocks as needed at Heights partner high school(s).
    • Supporting the facilitation and advising for embedded programming at  multiple School District of Philadelphia high schools, including Parkway Center City Middle College and 2-3 others. 
    • Serving as a primary point person for logistics and program coordination with schools and partner organizations, including event/workshop and trip planning.
    • Helping students apply for internships, externships, and enrichment programs, with consistent follow-up and check-ins.
    • Talking with students about healthcare careers and college interests, connecting them to opportunities they can pursue now.
    • Conducting student outreach and maintaining regular progress updates.
    • Providing feedback to refine and improve student experience in programs.
    • Attending bi-weekly team meetings.
    • Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of and contacts with local health care programs, training, etc. that may be helpful supplemental opportunities for Heights high school and college students.
    • Advising and supporting  students with pursuing healthcare  careers, including certifications where applicable. 
    • Helping to secure class or program rosters as needed, working with Heights staff to ensure necessary data is gathered, tracked, and recorded for programming
    About you:
    • Background in health care/ health professions, public health, or a related field.
    • Prior experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or advising adolescents.
    • Strong understanding of local schools, communities, and the barriers faced by Philadelphia students (preferred).
    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to build strong student relationships.
    • Comfortable facilitating group activities, career readiness sessions, and trauma-informed discussions.
    • Willing to take initiative and adapt to student and program needs.
    • Personal and/or professional experience that connects to the mission of supporting diverse youth in career and college success.
    Heights employees: 
    • Must meet expectations to report in-person on a schedule determined by their direct manager and/or the Vice President of the team.  
    • Must meet PA State background check requirements [PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse, and FBI Fingerprint Check] at hire and every five years thereafter. 
    • Must be able to complete an I-9 employment verification form to work in the United States
    • Strong orientation to customer service, particularly with regard to students, partners, and colleagues 
    • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and related applications, as well as use of general office equipment (phones, computers, copiers, etc) 
    • Fluency in the use of data and data systems. Maintains appropriate engagement with data entry, reporting, and review. 
    • Must adhere to COVID safety guidelines as established by Heights and/or its partners. 
    • Office-based staff should be mindful of the organization’s strong recommendation that staff maintain up-to-date COVID vaccination and boosters. 
    • Site-based staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must submit to any COVID testing or other health screenings as required by the Department of Human Services and/or the School District of Philadelphia. 
    • Must be able to work in a busy, often complex work environment that is generally climate-controlled. 
    • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis. 
    • Must be able to sit for long periods of time. 
    • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
    • Access to reliable transportation is required
