The purpose of this position is to work independently in research project on New World Screwworm. Duties will include planning and conducting experiments, writing SOPs and manuscripts, and supporting and mentoring technicians and students on related projects. This position is part of a research project funded by the USDA to develop tools to bolster preparedness or response to New World Screwworm.
This position is On-site.

Minimum Qualifications:
• PhD in biology or related fields. The degree requirement is necessary to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.
• At least 5 years of research laboratory experience in molecular biology
• Prior experience with molecular techniques (PCR, qPCR and gene cloning)
• Prior experience with CRISPR/Cas system
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD in parasitology, microbiology, entomology, molecular biology or closely related fields
• Prior experience with cell culture
• Prior experience with CRISPR/Cas assay optimization and guide RNA design
• Prior experience with developing and validating molecular diagnostic tests
• Ability to work in a BSL-2 laboratory environment
• Strong organizational skills
• Familiarity with bioinformatic analysis
