Job Summary

\n

The Laboratory Service Assistant (LSA) is an on-site position responsible for collecting urine specimens at an assigned physician practice in Eastern Idaho for testing at the laboratory in Boise. The LSA performs observed collections, accurately labels and prepares specimens for shipment, manages and orders the collection supplies used at the practice, and serves as the primary point of contact for the practice – building a strong working relationship and promptly answering any questions that arise.

$18-$20(+) / Hr.

Specimen Collection

\n
  • \n
  • Travel to the assigned practice location(s) in Eastern Idaho on a scheduled or as-needed basis.
  • \n
  • Perform observed urine specimen collections in accordance with chain-of-custody (COC) procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA, HIPAA).
  • \n
  • Verify patient identity against the test requisition/order prior to each collection.
  • \n
  • Follow all infection control, safety, and universal precaution protocols during every collection.
  • \n

Specimen Labeling & Handling

\n
  • \n
  • Accurately label all specimen tubes/containers with the correct patient name and required identifiers, matching each sample to its corresponding test order.
  • \n
  • Complete chain-of-custody documentation for every specimen collected.
  • \n
  • Package specimens properly for transport to the laboratory in Boise, following required packaging and shipping guidelines.
  • \n
  • Coordinate specimen pickup/courier scheduling as needed to ensure timely, compliant delivery to the lab.
  • \n

Supply Management

  • \n
  • Monitor inventory of specimen collection supplies used at the practice (collection cups, tubes, labels, PPE, shipping materials, etc.).
  • \n
  • Place and track orders for collection supplies to ensure the practice never runs short of needed materials.
  • \n
  • Submit and manage orders for specimens/testing kits sent to the laboratory.
  • \n

Customer Service & Practice Relations

\n
  • \n
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the practice on specimen collection, supply needs, and testing questions.
  • \n
  • Build and maintain a positive, professional relationship with practice staff and providers.
  • \n
  • Respond promptly and accurately to practice staff questions regarding collection procedures, supply orders, and specimen status.
  • \n
  • Escalate concerns or issues to the laboratory or supervisor as needed to keep the practice satisfied.
  • \n

Compliance & Documentation

\n
  • \n
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • \n
  • Accurately complete and maintain all required logs, forms, and collection records.
  • \n
  • Follow all company, laboratory, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • \n
\n

Qualifications

\n
  • \n
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with chain-of-custody procedures and observed collection protocols preferred.
  • \n
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for travel to the practice location.
  • \n
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • \n
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, particularly with specimen labeling and documentation.
  • \n
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in sensitive collection situations.
  • \n
  • Basic computer skills for placing supply/specimen orders and maintaining records.
  • \n
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information (HIPAA).
  • \n

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel locally between practice location(s) in Eastern Idaho.
  • \n
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • \n
  • Ability to lift and carry supply boxes/shipments (up to approximately 25 lbs).
  • \n
  • Manual dexterity for handling specimen containers and labeling materials.
  • \n
