As we continue expanding through acquisitions, state-funded projects, and new market builds, we're looking for a Fiber Design Engineer to help support and maintain the integrity of our growing fiber plant.In this role, you'll be involved in all aspects of fiber network engineering—from documentation and GIS updates to network design, quality assurance, and construction support. You'll work closely with internal teams and contractors to ensure our fiber network remains accurate, scalable, and ready to support future growth.This position offers work location flexibility between home and our offices located in Buhler, KS and Fowler, KS.A Day in the LifeYou'll start your day reviewing incoming network documentation, contractor deliverables, and support requests. You may be updating GIS records, reviewing high-level designs, creating splice documentation, or supporting special construction projects.Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, and contractor partners to ensure network records remain accurate and project timelines stay on track. Whether you're generating construction documents, supporting a state-funded build, or troubleshooting a documentation issue, your work helps ensure IdeaTek's fiber network is prepared for continued growth.What You'll DoKey responsibilities include:Maintain accurate documentation of IdeaTek's fiber network utilizing GIS platforms, including Vetro and related systemsReview, organize, and update fiber network records, trunk maps, as-builts, AOE documentation, and splicing informationDevelop fiber network layouts to support residential and business customersCreate splice documentation and supporting network design recordsGenerate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and construction documentation for network buildsAssist with project cost estimates and design support activitiesSupport and review high-level network designs to ensure quality and accuracyScrub contractor-submitted high-level designs and provide timely feedback to estimating teamsMonitor and complete fiber engineering support tickets and documentation requestsUpdate GIS databases using information from as-built construction maps and field activitiesCollaborate with internal teams and contractors to support ongoing network expansion projectsSupport special projects including corporate, state-funded, and federally funded fiber buildsAssist with the review, testing, and ongoing development of automated design softwareWhat Will Help You Stand OutPreferred Qualifications:Experience with Adtran or Calix GPON systemsExperience with DWDM network technologiesExperience utilizing GIS-based systems such as VetroExperience working on state-funded or federally funded broadband projectsAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, GIS, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related fieldDesired AttributesBeyond the qualifications, these attributes are what make someone a great fit for our team:Problem Solver – You enjoy tackling challenges and finding practical solutions.Detail-Oriented – You take pride in maintaining accurate and reliable documentation.Collaborative – You work effectively across teams and willingly share knowledge.Resourceful – You can gather information from multiple sources and synthesize it into actionable outcomes.Curious – You enjoy learning and continuously improving your technical knowledge.Results-Oriented – You take ownership of your work and strive to exceed expectations.Adaptable – You can pivot quickly as priorities shift in a rapidly growing environment.Why Join IdeaTek?IdeaTek is a cutting-edge telecommunications company dedicated to bringing fast, reliable internet to underserved communities.
