Position Overview
We are seeking motivated and customer-focused Fiber Installation Technicians to join our growing team. Technicians will be responsible for the installation, activation, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic internet services in residential environments while maintaining the highest standards for quality, safety, and customer experience.
The ideal candidate has experience with fiber optics, telecommunications, broadband installations, or structured cabling and takes pride in delivering clean, professional installations.
Responsibilities
Fiber Installation & Assembly
- Install residential fiber drop services from house box to customer premises equipment.
- Assemble and install exterior house boxes according to company standards.
- Route, secure, and protect fiber cabling while maintaining proper bend radius requirements.
- Install wall plates, bulkheads, fiber pigtails, and splice assemblies.
- Perform fusion splicing and fiber preparation.
- Install conduit, secure cabling, and maintain clean cable management practices.
- Install and mount ONTs (Optical Network Terminals) including GPON and XGS platforms.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Verify fiber light levels and service quality.
- Perform optical testing and troubleshooting.
- Conduct internet activation and validation procedures.
- Complete speed tests, ping tests, and connectivity verification.
- Document optical levels, splice performance, and installation photos.
- Ensure all installations meet company quality standards before completion.
Router & Customer Equipment Installation
- Install and configure customer networking equipment including Eero and Zyxel routers.
- Configure Wi-Fi networks and customer credentials.
- Optimize Wi-Fi coverage and recommend extender placement when necessary.
- Connect and verify customer devices.
- Educate customers on equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.
Customer Service
- Provide a professional and positive customer experience.
- Explain installation procedures and answer customer questions.
- Maintain a clean work environment inside and outside the customer's home.
- Represent the company professionally at all times.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience with fiber optic installations preferred.
- Experience with fusion splicing preferred.
- Knowledge of GPON and XGS fiber networks preferred.
- Understanding of fiber testing and optical light levels.
- Familiarity with CAT5e/CAT6 wiring standards.
- Ability to use optical power meters, fusion splicers, and testing equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces when necessary.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to kneel, bend, crawl, and stand for extended periods.
Quality Standards
Technicians will be expected to:
- Maintain clean and organized fiber routing.
- Follow all fiber handling and cleaning procedures.
- Meet company optical light level specifications.
- Complete all required documentation and photos.
- Pass quality inspections and audits.
- Adhere to all safety and installation standards.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License with clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background screening and drug testing (if required).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Telecommunications, fiber optic, or broadband installation experience preferred.
This is more than your next job! This is a career with the potential to work on your own and receive great pay! This is a 1099 position paying $50 per installation and most install techs complete 5-6 a day. Up to $6,000 a month or more if you like to work weekends.
