Job Summary
As the Fiber Splicing Technician, you will be responsible for splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic networks to support the delivery of reliable telecommunications infrastructure. You will perform fiber installations, network testing, documentation, and quality control while ensuring work is completed safely and according to engineering specifications. Your customers include telecommunications clients, project teams, and internal Congruex stakeholders, and you will contribute to project success through technical expertise, quality workmanship, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to:)
- Perform fiber optic splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs for aerial and underground fiber networks.
- Read splice matrices, engineering prints, and maps to complete fiber assignments, redlines, and project documentation accurately.
- Build, prepare, seal, maintain, and rehabilitate fiber enclosures, splice cases, tie points, and jumper cases while maintaining proper cable management.
- Conduct end-of-line network testing, OTDR testing, fiber activation, audits, and troubleshooting to ensure network quality and performance.
- Install, pull, splice, and activate fiber optic cable using manual, mechanical, or blowing methods while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.
Required Qualifications
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- OSHA 10 Certification required.
- Valid Driver's License preferred.
Experience
- Experience in fiber optic splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and telecommunications construction.
- Experience working with aerial and underground fiber optic infrastructure.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read engineering drawings, splice matrices, blueprints, and utility maps.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Ability to distinguish fiber colors accurately and perform precise splicing work.
- Ability to safely climb ladders and poles, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding field work.
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills with a commitment to safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with OTDR testing and fiber certification equipment.
- Experience with telecommunications construction, outside plant (OSP), and underground utility projects.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders and poles, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions around heavy equipment and active construction sites.
- Ability to distinguish fiber optic colors and maintain visual and audible awareness of surrounding personnel and equipment.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening, drug screening, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, as applicable.
