Job Summary:

As the Fiber Splicing Construction Manager, you will ultimately be responsible for managing fiber splicing construction operations, leading field crews, and ensuring projects are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. You will coordinate construction activities, oversee crew performance, and deliver high-quality project execution while maintaining budget and customer expectations. As the Fiber Splicing Construction Manager, your customers are project managers, field construction crews, telecommunications clients, and internal operations teams, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through operational leadership, quality project delivery, and continuous team development.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

  • Manage and coordinate the activities of assigned fiber splicing construction crews
  • Evaluate crew performance, provide coaching, training, and development opportunities, and support career advancement
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Administer employee performance management and corrective actions, including supporting documentation
  • Train and mentor Foremen while providing leadership for assigned construction crews
  • Coordinate project scheduling, material ordering, and resource planning with Project Managers
  • Collaborate with customers on site coordination, project planning, and construction activities
  • Authorize material orders for assigned projects
  • Coordinate with administrative staff regarding crew timesheets, project documentation, and job setup activities
  • Review and approve project invoices
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget
  • Monitor project milestones, deliverables, and overall project performance
  • Review and approve daily production reports, mark-up maps, As-Builts, and closeout documentation
  • Conduct interviews and participate in hiring field personnel
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • OSHA 30 Certification

Experience

  • Proven experience managing fiber splicing construction crews and field operations
  • Extensive experience with aerial and underground telecommunications construction
  • Skilled fiber splicer with experience in ribbon and loose tube fiber splicing
  • Experience using OTDRs, power meters, FastReporter, and other fiber testing equipment
  • Experience coordinating construction schedules, budgets, materials, and project documentation

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and project documentation
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management abilities
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with customers, employees, and leadership
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, scheduling software, HCSS HeavyBid, and related computer applications
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations including estimates, percentages, ratios, profit calculations, and budget forecasting
  • Ability to read and interpret contracts, RFPs, financial reports, safety regulations, operating manuals, and technical documentation
  • Ability to analyze problems, collect information, develop solutions, and make sound business decisions
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting telecommunications infrastructure construction projects
  • Experience managing multiple fiber splicing crews across multiple project locations
  • Experience with construction estimating and project cost management
  • Additional safety or telecommunications industry certifications

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and jobsite hazards
  • Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work night shifts when business needs require
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, lift, twist, and perform physically demanding activities for extended periods
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform physically demanding work throughout the workday
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and other required safety equipment
