Technical Account Manager – Scientific & Laboratory Solutions

Southern California Territory (Remote/Home Office Based)

A growing scientific instrumentation and laboratory solutions company is seeking a Technical Account Manager to support an established territory across Southern California, Arizona, and Hawaii. This is a consultative sales role focused primarily on managing and growing existing customer relationships within pharmaceutical, biotech, academic, environmental, and industrial laboratory environments.

This position is ideal for someone with a scientific background who enjoys combining technical knowledge with relationship-driven sales.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Manage and grow a well-established territory with active customer accounts and strong existing business
  • Build relationships with laboratory managers, scientists, QA/QC teams, and research personnel
  • Provide technical consultation and product guidance to laboratory customers
  • Conduct in-person customer visits, product discussions, and occasional demonstrations
  • Maintain a consistent field presence throughout the territory with regular onsite meetings
  • Partner cross-functionally with applications, service, and internal support teams
  • Identify expansion opportunities within existing accounts while developing select new business opportunities
  • Maintain accurate CRM activity, forecasting, and territory planning
  • Stay informed on laboratory workflows, industry trends, and competitive technologies

Territory & Travel
  • Territory includes Southern California, Arizona, and Hawaii
  • Candidates should ideally be based in Los Angeles, Orange County, or San Diego
  • Fully remote/home-office based
  • Average of 10–15 customer visits per week
  • Travel is primarily regional and typically under 20%
  • Annual company meeting travel required

  • Pharmaceutical and biotechnology laboratories
  • Research and development facilities
  • Academic and government laboratories
  • Food, feed, and environmental testing organizations
  • Quality control and analytical testing labs

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or another life science discipline
  • Approximately 1–5 years of scientific sales or laboratory-facing experience
  • Strong technical communication skills and familiarity with laboratory terminology
  • Experience supporting analytical instrumentation, laboratory consumables, or scientific workflows preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable working independently in a field-based sales environment
  • Strong organizational and territory management skills

Preferred Backgrounds

Candidates coming from scientific or laboratory-focused organizations are highly relevant, especially those with experience supporting:
  • Analytical instrumentation
  • Laboratory equipment or consumables
  • Chromatography or sample preparation workflows
  • Scientific distribution or laboratory services

Compensation
  • Competitive base salary plus commission structure
  • Target total compensation generally falls in the low-to-mid $100Ks depending on experience
  • Strong earning potential for candidates with proven technical sales success
