Overview:

The Field Compression Engineering Supervisor is responsible for effectively managing and providing guidance to a group of multi-disciplined engineers responsible for providing technical support to Operations, Mechanical Project Support and other departments related to operations/maintenance of natural gas compression equipment. The Supervisor will help direct the group workload, assess/balance work/project priorities, and interact with multiple departments to coordinate compression , scoping, estimating, design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance for the natural gas pipeline group. The Supervisor position will evaluate and assist in developing processes and programs that encourage safety, reliability, consistency and improved performance and efficiencies while meeting company/department goals and regulatory requirements.

 

Compression equipment supported by this role and team has a wide range of horsepower manufactured by various companies including Caterpillar, Clark, Cooper Bessemer, Dresser-Rand, General Electric, Ingersoll-Rand, Solar Turbines, Wartsila, Waukesha and Worthington.  This is a great opportunity if you have experience working in Refinery, Manufacturing, Railroad or Pipeline industries or while serving our country in the Military.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Establish within the group and maintain high levels of communication and flow of information early in all projects (and support functions) to include all stakeholders; detail and define scopes of work/supply, expectations, timelines, and progress reporting.
  • Manage workloads, while constantly monitoring and changing priorities to meet deadlines and department goals.
  • Develop and update compression and emissions control equipment specifications and maintenance standards.
  • Explore, evaluate and introduce new technologies to enhance safety, reliability, and performance, associate with industry groups, technical committees and suppliers.
  • Provide individual performance monitoring and development of team members. Focus on strengthening the team effectiveness, build knowledge with training and mentoring, and promote high quality professional service to customers.
  • Complete the required administrative functions such as time sheets and expense reports.
  • Maintain/develop the groups’ knowledge base to effectively support new projects by providing direction on equipment or material selections and configurations to meet established standards and defined operating parameters, establish equipment bid specifications, assist in bid evaluations, life cycle cost analysis, inspections, commissioning, performance testing and verifications.
  • Work with Company and non-company personnel, take direction from leadership, focus attention on details, follow work rules, and adhere to work schedules.
  • Promote open, ethical and continuous communication between various departments, customers, and personnel.
  • Provide technical expertise to support mechanical needs for various customers.
  • Establish vendor relationships as applies to equipment in the area.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Organize work for timely completion and be available for overtime work if required.
  • Use personal judgment and specialized knowledge to provide and safeguard confidential information.
  • Communicate in a highly professional manner. Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully. E-mail will always be professional.
  • Travel to contractor or Kinder Morgan sites for mechanical support as well as to attend meetings and conferences. Weekend travel is occasionally required.
  • Work with Operations in development of annual budgets regarding compression and ancillary equipment needs.
  • Maintain a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Be capable of managing multiple assignments with various deadlines and responsibility levels concurrently.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance.
  • Knowledgeable of company engineering specification.
  • Knowledgeable of company and governmental safety regulations.
  • Maintain a high regard for the safety of the team, public, company and contract personnel, and company assets.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, control, and instrumentation drawings.
Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

  • A 4-year engineering degree from an accredited school. 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-10 Years experience in a engineering/technical support position preferably in support of natural gas compression.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to manage a large group comprised of professionals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels at local and remote locations.
  • Strong, effective, timely, clear and concise verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer focus in dealing with Project Management, Business Development, Operations, Environmental Health and Safety, Contractors, Suppliers and other internal and external groups.
  • Specific knowledge in natural gas compression equipment and the mechanical design of gas compression equipment (including reciprocating engines, gas turbines, electric motor drives, reciprocating compressors, and centrifugal compressors).
  • Proficiency in basic engineering skills.
  • Experience and knowledge with compressor station design.
  • Understanding and experience with managing projects.
  • Ability and willingness to understand and implement all company job related processes, procedures, guidelines and best practices.
  • Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work independently
  • Proficient in basic PC operations, including word-processing and spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams, including flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs). 
  • Strong presentation and report writing skills.

 

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements
