The Field Electrical Power Engineer will be responsible for project oversight of all aspects of electrical power systems including one-line drawings, NEC code compliance, power scheme control drawings, short circuit coordination drawings, arc flash studies and labeling, circuit breakers, switchgear, medium voltage systems, relays, grounding systems, overcurrent protection, transformer differential protection, and power system communication. The Electrical Power Engineer will support project execution through technical leadership, coordination with project teams, field oversight, and commissioning support while serving as the subject matter expert for project power systems.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fully understand the project power system from start to finish, including control schemes, device configurations, and system functionality while serving as the subject matter expert for all project-related power system decisions and technical support.
  • Provide technical analysis and resolution support for discrepancies involving contract documents, manufacturer literature, customer-requested changes, overcurrent coordination conflicts, and NEC code compliance issues, including development of Requests for Information (RFIs) when required.
  • Oversee and support project engineers while coordinating with electrical supervisors, electricians, and field personnel regarding power system installation, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct field walkthroughs with electrical construction staff to verify equipment locations, orientation, dimensions, weights, grounding methods, wire and bus sizing, and installation clearances.
  • Attend and oversee significant factory and field electrical startup, testing, commissioning, and system energization activities.
  • Review and confirm manufacturer submittals, shop drawings, as-built documentation, control schematics, and related project documentation prior to customer submission.
  • Provide detailed interpretation and explanation of electrical equipment functionality, protection schemes, and control systems to project stakeholders.
  • Support project execution through technical problem solving, coordination with vendors and contractors, and communication of field deficiencies and corrective actions.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to take verbal and written direction and provide accurate technical responses, reports, and related documentation.
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems including switchgear, medium voltage systems, transformers, power distribution equipment, grounding systems, protective relays, and overcurrent protection coordination.
  • Knowledge of data center electrical infrastructure including Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Static Transfer Switches (STS), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Power Distribution Units (PDU), batteries, metering systems, and distribution power systems.
  • Strong understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and electrical system compliance standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D plans, shop drawings, electrical schematics, and manufacturer documentation in both electronic and hard copy formats.
  • Ability to perform detailed reviews of drawings, specifications, shop drawings, control schematics, and manufacturer literature.
  • Ability to explain electrical equipment functionality and power system operation in detail to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify, track, and communicate field deficiencies and corrective actions effectively.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to coordinate with project teams, contractors, vendors, and field personnel in a fast-paced construction environment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office Non-Office

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the electrical construction industry.
  • Electrical Engineering degree required.
  • Practical Engineering degree preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge and experience performing and/or observing electrical construction activities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and related business software applications.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and electrical construction standards.
  • Experience with electrical power system coordination, protection systems, and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with project teams and field personnel.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with data center electrical infrastructure and mission critical facilities.
  • Experience with medium voltage systems, protective relays, and power system studies.
  • Familiarity with arc flash analysis, short circuit coordination studies, and grounding system design.
  • Experience supporting electrical startup, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of SEL relays and related power control systems.
  • Experience working in large-scale industrial or commercial construction environments.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position requires regular interaction with field construction personnel and active participation in project coordination, technical review, startup, testing, and commissioning activities. The Electrical Power Engineer is expected to serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert throughout all phases of project execution.
