Field Engineer 1 – Underground Construction & TunnelingSan Jose, California, United StatesFull‑time, regular position.Position Summary:Perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction of underground systems and structures.Key Tasks and Responsibilities:Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geological data to plan projects.Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.Plan and design structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards.Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to managerial personnel.Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management.Travel as required to attend meetings, site visits, training, and other related activities.Skills and Abilities:Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.Apply mathematics and scientific rules/methods to solve problems.Communicate information and ideas clearly in speaking and writing.Listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.Determine the tools and equipment needed to perform a job.Work well in a non‑structured environment.Demonstrate leadership behaviors necessary to guide others in achieving team goals.Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, database management, and AutoCAD.Physical Requirements:Regular use of hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or manipulate controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.Stand, walk, and sit frequently; occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Work near moving mechanical parts and construction equipment; in high or precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
