We are partnering with a growth-oriented construction contractor who is seeking a Field Engineer to support active projects across the Northeast. This role is critical to the successful execution of construction projects and works closely with the Project Engineer, Project Manager, Superintendent, and Foreman to ensure work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards.

The Field Engineer contributes to the successful delivery of construction projects by assisting with coordination of field activities, subcontractor and client needs, and material procurement. This role requires strong communication, organization, and technical skills, as well as the ability to multi-task, negotiate, and problem-solve in a demanding field environment.

Experienced Field Engineers may be asked to supervise and mentor engineering interns
Act as a company representative onsite with clients, subcontractors, and employees, conducting all activities professionally
Verify and perform construction surveying and layout onsite
Develop work plans for each Definable Feature of Work (DFOW) for review
Review project specifications to ensure quality compliance
Assist the Project Engineer with value engineering proposals and change orders
Draft, log, and distribute RFIs, NCRs, and submittals
Manage onsite inventory and coordinate procurement to ensure materials are available ahead of work progress
Document material testing results and maintain material certifications when no QC is assigned
Assist with project financials, cost tracking, and budget management
Support future project estimating efforts as needed
Assist with drafting subcontract and purchase orders
Partner with the Safety Director and Superintendent to ensure company and client safety expectations are met and exceeded
Work with crews and QC to ensure the 3-phase inspection process is followed for each DFOW in accordance with the Quality Control Plan
Participate in root cause analysis for quality control issues
Complete and submit daily progress reports when no QC is assigned
Contribute to project scheduling and provide weekly schedule updates
Develop work methods with the Superintendent to align operations with company procedures and best practices
Mentor and support summer interns
Positively represent the company at all times
Act as a leader, mentor, and team player
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD experience required
Experience or training in construction surveying preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to thrive in a changing and fast-paced environment
Strong desire to learn and grow professionally
Experience with construction software such as Viewpoint or equivalent preferred
Ability to work on active construction sites
Willingness to travel and work a job rotation schedule, sometimes on short notice
