We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field/Project Engineer to support heavy civil and infrastructure construction projects in Brownsville, Texas. This is a field-focused role offering hands-on experience working alongside Project Managers and Superintendents while ensuring construction activities align with plans, specifications, and quality standards.

This position serves as a critical link between field operations and the project management team, with a strong emphasis on earthwork, utilities, documentation, and public agency compliance. What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate daily with Project Managers and Superintendents to support field operations and project execution.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure compliance in the field.
  • Support field operations with layout verification, line and grade checks, and clarification of technical details.
  • Assist with coordination of earthwork, grading, underground utilities, drainage, and related infrastructure work.
  • Perform quantity take-offs, track installed quantities, and support pay applications and cost tracking.
  • Coordinate materials testing activities.
  • Inspect materials and workmanship to verify compliance with contract requirements and quality standards.
  • Interface with field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, utility agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Support safety compliance related to trenching, traffic control, and work around heavy equipment.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and field documentation.
  • Identify field issues proactively and assist with resolution, including support for change order documentation.
  • Assist in in the preparation of workplans and JHAs.

What You Bring

  • Working knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, materials, and field operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and public works standards.
  • Experience with construction project management software such as Procore or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with field personnel, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and documentation abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to adapt to changing field conditions and project needs.
  • Safety-first mindset with a commitment to quality and compliance.

Education | Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of experience in heavy civil or infrastructure construction (internships or co-ops accepted)
  • Experience managing RFIs, submittals, and drawings in Procore
  • Experience using Bluebeam for plan review, takeoffs, or document management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for tracking quantities, costs, and project data
  • Exposure to geotechnical or construction materials testing
  • Familiarity with public works standards (DOT, municipal, AASHTO, FHWA)
  • Field experience supporting earthwork, utilities, or site development projects
