FIELD FABRICATION TECHNICIAN (travel requirements 50-75%)Our client is part of a global entity that combines advanced technology with strong engineering expertise to deliver reliable, high-performance heat-treating solutions. They are the largest North American heat treat equipment manufacturer, and continuing to grow, adding teammates in long-term career roles in the capital equipment segment. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
Weld, repair, and fabricate equipment or machinery.
Fabricate and dismantle parts, equipment, and machines, using a cutting torch or other cutting equipment.
Field Fabricate, modify, repair, new or existing assemblies at customer site.
Bolt parts, such as side and deck plates, jaw plates, and journals, to basic assembly unit.
Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
Establish centerline, using straightedge, levels, and transit.
Align machines or equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, lasers, or plumb bobs.
Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit, using hand tools and power tools.
Assemble machines, and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
Lay out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with power drill.
Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment, using blueprints and schematic drawings, to determine work procedures.
Troubleshoot equipment and other mechanical systems.
Connect power unit to machines and test unit to evaluate its mechanical operation.
Provide frequent reports and checklists, detailing progress, planned dates for major tasks and all open issues.
Travel: Domestic USA by air or truck with trailer (26ft enclosed). When not traveling, to assist in other Field Tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma
Strong mechanical aptitude and welding experience
Hands on experience performing troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, combustion and piping systems
Good working knowledge of industrial electrical systems
Crane operating skills
Hi-Lo operating skills
Shear operating skills
Band saw operating skills
Break press operating skills
Blueprint reading skills
Reading & use of tape measure
Fabrication of assemblies (2 years of experience required)
Assemble and set-up machinery/equipment (2 years of experience required)
Knowledge of welding mild steel and alloys with stick and MIG
Must be proficient in installation of threaded pipe and bending tube
Working understanding for ASM 2750, CQI-9 and NFPA 86 is beneficial
Able to work well in a team environment is a must
