Tesla is looking for an exceptional field incident investigator with a background in collision reconstruction and forensic analysis for the Field Quality, Data Analysis and Engineering team. This role will support the Incident Investigation, Safety and Regulatory & Legal teams. The individual will be tasked with conducting field investigations to support engineering teams and regulatory requests, including collection and assessment of CAN (Controller Area Network) logs, EDR (Event Data Recorder) data and other telemetry sources. The role will require assessment of remote telemetry as well as travel for physical inspections of vehicles and incident sites.
- Conduct investigations of field incidents to support engineering, regulatory, and legal requests
- Perform inspections of incident vehicles and incident sites, including documentation and collection of electronic data
- Participate in reviews of incidents with vehicle engineering, safety, and AI teams within Tesla
- Compile CAN log, EDR and other telemetry data for a given incident or incidents in order to meet information requests from regulatory authorities
- Organize and compile reports on incidents for internal release
- Specific training or accreditation in collision reconstruction/investigation
- Experience in vehicle crash investigations (including vehicle/scene inspections, Event Data Recorder (EDR) collection, forensic photography, and scene scanning equipment)
- Experience in analyzing electronic vehicle data (e.g. CAN and EDR)
- Experience working with local and/or federal law enforcement personnel regarding case investigations desired
- Travel to incident sites and vehicles to perform inspections
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with automotive components
