French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Field Municipal Staff Engineer for our office in Newark, NJ. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent Civil Engineering graduate who is interested in municipal infrastructure, construction engineering, and field operations.In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals while gaining hands‑on experience on a variety of municipal and utility infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey.ResponsibilitiesAssist with observing and documenting construction activities for municipal and utility infrastructure projects, including water distribution, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and roadway improvementsSupport senior staff with monitoring contractor work to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and applicable standardsPrepare daily field reports documenting project progress, site conditions, installed quantities, and completed workTake and organize photographic documentation of construction progress and key milestonesAssist with tracking quantities and maintaining project records for payment applications and project documentationCommunicate with contractors, municipal representatives, utility companies, and project team members regarding field activities and project updatesAttend construction meetings and assist with documenting discussions, action items, and project progressHelp verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project requirements and quality standardsSupport the review process for shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders under the guidance of senior staffMonitor project schedules and communicate potential delays or field concerns to project managersObserve job site safety practices and report unsafe conditions when identifiedAssist with project closeout activities, including punch list preparation and final inspectionsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field requiredInternship or co‑op experience in construction, transportation, municipal engineering, or utilities is a plusInterest in municipal infrastructure, construction inspection, and field engineeringBasic understanding of construction methods, engineering plans, and specifications preferredStrong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skillsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteValid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey as neededBenefitsWe understand that a fulfilling career is about more than just the work you do – it's about feeling secure in your health, confident in your financial future, and balanced in your personal and professional life.
