The Customer Service Representative (CSR) role involves contributing to the agency's mission through direct public service. As the first point of contact, you will assist beneficiaries and inquirers in person, by phone, or in writing, providing information on SSA laws, rules, regulations, and Medicare programs. Your responsibilities include obtaining information to determine eligibility and using automation tools to access and update claims or eligibility data. You must understand Social Security programs and explain complex concepts clearly to the public. Extensive training will prepare you for the position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing assistance to beneficiaries and the public via multiple communication channels
  • Conducting interviews to identify caller questions or issues
  • Explaining technical information, gathering facts, evaluating evidence, and resolving problems related to SSA programs
