Summary

The Field Operator is an infrastructure maintenance position that will perform a variety of skilled semi-skilled technical and/or manual labor activities and duties related to the maintenance and repair of public infrastructure. Field Operators may be assigned to collection/distribution system maintenance, street maintenance, concrete and asphalt, storm water construction and maintenance, levee maintenance, or airport maintenance, or water meter reading, and will be cross-trained in field maintenance operations.

Responsibilities

Duties may include: • Installation • Maintenance • Repair of infrastructure within city right-of-way, property, easement, and facilities • Use of computer technology • Water meter readings • Operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools required for position assignment • All crews assist with special in-house construction projects • May be assigned to assist other crews • Provide emergency response • Seasonal snow removal • May include 12-hour shifts, working days, and/or nights

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Three years of increasingly responsible heavy equipment operation, construction, or building trades preferred. Must possess a valid Kansas drivers license, which will be required to obtain a Class A Commercial Drivers License within 6 months of hire. Must acquire job-required certifications within 24-42 months of hire for continued employment. The successful candidate must pass the City background check, post-offer City physical, and drug screen.
