Field Safety Manager – Heavy Civil Construction

We’re seeking an experienced Field Safety Manager to help strengthen our safety culture, support project teams, and promote Incident and Injury Free performance across our jobsites.
This role is ideal for a safety professional who understands construction field operations, communicates well with crews and leadership, and knows how to balance compliance, coaching, and practical problem-solving in the field.
What You’ll Do
As a Field Safety Manager, you’ll work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with OSHA, state, local, customer, and ESCO safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and support a strong safety culture focused on Incident and Injury Free performance.
- Provide day-to-day safety and health support to project teams and field operations.
- Conduct regular jobsite safety audits to verify compliance and identify unsafe conditions.
- Recognize immediate hazards and potential exposures, then work with project teams to address them.
- Participate in the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses.
- Support implementation and maintenance of Site-Specific Safety Plans.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, develop reports, identify root causes, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain safety documentation required by OSHA, project requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Provide reliable safety data to monitor safety and health performance.
- Partner with Superintendents and Foremen to reinforce safety policies and prevent repeat incidents.
- Communicate with general contractors, subcontractors, and safety personnel regarding project safety expectations.
- Provide field coaching, guidance, and training to help crews work safely and effectively.
- Help build a proactive safety culture where every employee-owner takes responsibility for themselves and their team.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of construction experience with underground utilities and excavation.
- Strong understanding of construction jobsite hazards and risk management.
- Working knowledge of OSHA construction safety standards and applicable state and local regulations.
- Ability to identify hazards, communicate expectations, and support corrective action in the field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
- Team-oriented approach with the ability to work effectively with field crews, project teams, subcontractors, and customers.
- Ability to access all areas of active construction sites in varying climates and environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two-year college degree or equivalent safety/construction experience.
- OSHA 500 certification.
- CHST or CSP certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
- Experience supporting safety programs for heavy civil, excavation, underground utility, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, jobsite audits, safety training, and JHA reviews.

- $70,000 – $90,000 annual salary, based on experience
