Job Description:

The Opportunity

In this role, you will perform complex field service operations for high-voltage air-insulated switchgear (AIS) and related power system equipment supporting utility and industrial customers. Your work will span installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and end-of-life services-both remotely and on-site-often in challenging field environments. You will troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, carry out advanced testing, and support restoration of equipment reliability with minimal supervision. The scope includes working on substation projects, non-destructive examinations, and technically demanding service activities that require adapting procedures and equipment to real-world conditions. Your contributions help sustain grid reliability, extend the life of critical assets, and support safe operation of power infrastructure across North America.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Perform installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, overhauls, and upgrades of high-voltage and power system equipment

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and take proactive measures to prevent failures while keeping internal partners informed

  • Identify electrical and mechanical problems and determine corrective actions with limited assistance

  • Conduct advanced electrical testing, data collection, and evaluation to resolve operating issues

  • Support and carry out non-destructive examinations and complex test activities

  • Assemble, operate, and adapt field service test equipment for varying site conditions

  • Collaborate across the organization to identify potential service and business opportunities

  • Suggest product and process improvements that enhance service execution and customer outcomes

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.

  • More than 5 years of experience in technical field service work with power, mechanical, or construction-related equipment

  • Trade education and experience (e.g., Industrial Mechanic or Electrical trades) or a college/university diploma or degree in a technical field such as electrical or mechanical engineering/technology

  • Hands-on experience with substation construction, servicing, commissioning, and repair of high-voltage equipment up to 800kV, including AIS and associated systems

  • Working knowledge of electrical testing methods such as circuit breaker timing/velocity, CT testing, power factor, insulation resistance, dynamic resistance measurement, and Hi-Pot testing

  • Experience supporting or working directly with power utilities

  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel extensively (approximately 80%), including within the U.S., Canada, and Mexico

  • Fluent in English with the ability to communicate clearly in field and customer environments
