Field Service Engineer - Gas Insulated Switchgear

Overview:

Shermco is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support gas insulated switchgear (GIS) at customer substations and power facilities. In this field based role, you will help install, commission, test, troubleshoot, and maintain high voltage GIS equipment. You will work directly with customers, field crews, and subcontractors to complete projects safely and keep critical power systems reliable.

This position involves travel to multiple customer sites based on project and service needs.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support during GIS installation, commissioning, testing, acceptance, and handover.
• Supervise on site installation and commissioning activities.
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues and coordinate troubleshooting with field crews and subcontractors.
• Oversee contracted maintenance work and verify that it meets project requirements.
• Review and maintain test results, operating procedures, performance reports, drawings, and equipment documentation.
• Coordinate daily site activities with customers, Shermco teams, and subcontractors.
• Promote safe work practices and follow applicable regulations, procedures, and site requirements.
• Ensure proper use and care of tools, test equipment, vehicles, materials, and supplies.

Qualifications:

• 2–5 years of technical field service experience, preferably with high voltage switchgear or substation equipment.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience leading crews on electrical projects.
• Ability to read and interpret contracts, specifications, and technical drawings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and test equipment software.
• A technical diploma or degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is preferred. Relevant electrical or industrial mechanic training and experience will also be considered.
• Ability to travel up to 80%, potentially including assignments in Canada and Mexico.
• A valid U.S. driver’s license and fluency in English.
• Authorization to work for Shermco in the United States.

Pay Range: USD $39.20 - USD $55.00 /Hr.
