The Field Service Engineer I works directly with advanced automation, robotics, and semiconductor-related equipment, using technical documentation, diagnostic tools, and collaboration with engineering teams to ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and system repairs on Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) to maintain optimal performance and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and software-related issues on automated equipment and supporting systems.
  • Analyze system logs, alarms, and error reports to identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Verify software revisions, system configurations, and equipment status during maintenance and troubleshooting activities to ensure proper operation and compliance with standards.
  • Install, configure, and validate hardware and software updates on supported AMHS platforms and related subsystems.
  • Utilize technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, maintenance procedures, and service manuals, to perform accurate and efficient repairs.
  • Support sustaining activities that maximize equipment uptime, throughput, and long-term reliability in automated and semiconductor-related environments.
  • Escalate complex hardware and software issues to engineering teams, providing detailed data, logs, and observations to assist in advanced troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Complete factory training and certification requirements on multiple AMHS platforms and subsystems to maintain current technical proficiency.
  • Accurately document all maintenance activities, repairs, troubleshooting actions, parts usage, and equipment status in service reports and maintenance records.
  • Collaborate verbally with co-workers, customers, and engineering personnel to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a clear and professional manner.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, laptop-based service software, and log analysis tools to evaluate system performance and identify faults.
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical assemblies, sensors, motors, drives, pneumatics, motion control systems, and electromechanical devices to support installation, repair, and sustaining activities.
  • Follow safety procedures and best practices when working near moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, and in clean room environments.
  • Travel as needed to customer sites or facilities to perform field service, maintenance, installation, and support activities.
  • Provide a high level of customer satisfaction by delivering responsive, professional, and effective field service support.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 12+ months of hands-on technical experience troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, or repairing industrial equipment, automation systems, semiconductor equipment, robotics, or electromechanical systems (excluding internships, school projects, and academic lab work).
  • Associate degree, technical certification, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • At least 6+ months of experience verbally troubleshooting technical issues with a co-worker or customer to resolve problems.
  • At least 12+ months of professional experience within military technical training or equivalent hands-on experience in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Mechanical knowledge and experience working with electromechanical systems and automated equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems, including AMHS and automated material handling equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and blueprints.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical diagnostic instruments and common shop and hand tools.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electromechanical devices using technical documentation and diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based systems and PC skills, including MS Office and Excel.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools to support mechanical and electromechanical work.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain necessary travel documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required for field service assignments.
  • Strong customer satisfaction skills with a professional and service-oriented approach.
  • Effective presentation skills and clear verbal communication for technical discussions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, demonstrating flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
