With a strong global reputation and a significant history supplying high-speed automation equipment to manufacturers, we are expanding aggressively across North America. We are currently doubling our footprint and scaling our teams in both production and engineering. We foster a flexible, family-oriented culture with a strong focus on growth, internal promotion, and long-term career development.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Field Service Mechanical Technician to join the expanding field service team. This hands-on role focuses on the mechanical installation, assembly, alignment, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic systems, automation cells, conveyors, and high-speed converting machinery at customer sites across North America. The position involves extensive travel and close collaboration with controls/software technicians and engineering teams to ensure successful equipment deployment and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical installation, assembly, and alignment of robotic and automated production equipment at customer facilities.
  • Support system start-up, commissioning, validation, and performance optimization for automation cells, conveyors, robotic systems, tooling, and peripheral equipment.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout prints, pneumatic schematics, and assembly documentation.
  • Install and align robots, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), guarding, conveyors, and automation components to specification.
  • Assist controls engineers and programmers during power-up, testing, and debug phases.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues during installation and production ramp-up.
  • Conduct equipment inspections, operational testing, and performance verification.
  • Modify and adjust mechanical components in the field to resolve fit-up or operational issues.
  • Ensure all work complies with customer safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and company quality requirements.
  • Provide technical support and training to customers and operators during equipment handoff.
  • Complete detailed service reports, installation documentation, and daily progress updates.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineering teams, subcontractors, and customers to maintain project schedules.
  • Travel extensively to customer sites for installations, emergency service, and ongoing production support.

Requirements

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of field service, machine building, automation installation, commissioning, or industrial maintenance experience (commissioning/startup experience preferred over pure maintenance).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using precision measuring tools and alignment equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly prints, and schematics.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Basic understanding of industrial electrical systems and controls integration.
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and installation equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (up to 70%) domestically and internationally, including potential training in Italy.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear written service reports detailing work completed, issues found, and resolutions.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with robotic systems (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa Motoman).
  • Background in high-speed rotary equipment, web handling, paper processing, converting machinery, material handling, or similar complex automated systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC-controlled automation systems.
  • Welding, fabrication, or machining experience.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification or equivalent industrial safety training.
  • Previous experience in automotive, manufacturing, warehouse automation, or related industries.

Compensation/Benefits

  • Expected earnings: $35/hour for strong junior/mechatronics candidates up to $48/hour for highly experienced technicians. 45-55 hours/week expected.
  • Competitive benefits package
  • Opportunities for training in Italy and ongoing technical development.

Location

This is a field-based role with travel to customer sites across North America (up to 70%). Home-base location is in West Chester, Ohio.  Training may include 2–3 months in Italy, shadowing at U.S. customer sites (including a major site south of Atlanta, GA), and support from the Boston robotics/automation hub.
