Who We're Looking For

Carnegie Robotics is looking for a hands-on, technically capable Field Service Representative (FSR) to support the deployment, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and sustainment of our ground robotic systems.

This is a high-travel position requiring approximately 80-90% national and international travel to customer locations, test sites, demonstrations, training events, and operational deployments. Travel may include extended trips and work in remote or austere environments.

The ideal candidate is technically curious, comfortable working independently, and able to troubleshoot across mechanical, electrical, networking, software, and vehicle systems. You will work directly with customers while maintaining close communication with Carnegie Robotics engineering, integration, technician, and operations teams.

This is not a desk-focused position. Success in this role requires a strong hands-on mindset, flexibility, professionalism, and the ability to safely solve problems in real time around vehicles and robotic platforms.

What You'll Be Doing

• Travel approximately 80-90% of the time, both nationally and internationally, to support customer locations, test sites, demonstrations, training events, and deployments.

• Deploy, operate, maintain, and support Carnegie Robotics ground robotic platforms and associated support equipment.

• Perform hands-on troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, networking, software, sensor, and vehicle-system issues.

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to maintain system and fleet readiness.

• Diagnose system faults, identify root causes, implement field-level repairs, and escalate issues to engineering when appropriate.

• Use Linux-based tools, system diagnostics, logs, and other troubleshooting resources to identify and document technical issues.

• Support robotic platform setup, checkout, commissioning, configuration, calibration, and operational readiness. • Perform pre-operation and post-operation inspections, safety checks, and system health verification.

• Support customer demonstrations, field testing, evaluations, acceptance events, and operational deployments.

• Provide direct technical support to customers and operators in the field.

• Train customers and operators on system operation, safe operating procedures, basic troubleshooting, and maintenance.

• Work closely with engineering, integration, technician, manufacturing, and operations teams to resolve field issues and improve system reliability.

• Document failures, repairs, configuration changes, field observations, and lessons learned with clear and actionable technical detail.

• Provide field feedback that supports root-cause analysis, continuous improvement, reliability, serviceability, and future product development.

• Assist with equipment preparation, packing, shipping, transportation, staging, recovery, and accountability for field deployments.

• Maintain field tools, spare parts, support equipment, and service inventory.

• Support data collection, system testing, and troubleshooting activities as required.

• Represent Carnegie Robotics professionally while working directly with customers, partners, and other stakeholders in the United States and abroad.

What Your Day-to-Day Looks Like

This role changes with the mission. One week you may be supporting a customer deployment, another troubleshooting a robotic vehicle at a test site, and the next supporting a demonstration, evaluation, or training event.

You may be responsible for preparing and transporting equipment, staging systems, performing pre-operation checks, supporting daily operations, troubleshooting issues as they occur, completing repairs, collecting diagnostic information, documenting results, and preparing equipment for the next day of operation.

Field Service Representatives must be comfortable making sound technical decisions with limited supervision while maintaining strong communication with the broader Carnegie Robotics team. The role requires adaptability, ownership, teamwork, and a safety-first approach.

Because of the travel requirements, schedules may include early mornings, extended days, weekends, overnight travel, and multi-day or multi-week deployments. Candidates must be able and willing to travel internationally and meet the documentation requirements necessary for international travel.

What You'll Have

• Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

• Experience troubleshooting complex equipment, vehicles, robotics, industrial systems, military systems, or similar technology.

• Ability to diagnose problems methodically, identify root causes, and perform repairs in a field environment.

• Mechanical aptitude and confidence using common hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and test equipment.

• Working knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, connectors, and electrical troubleshooting.

• Basic computer and IP networking skills.

• Familiarity with Linux command-line environments or the willingness and demonstrated ability to learn.

• Ability to read and follow technical documentation, wiring diagrams, procedures, maintenance instructions, and system documentation.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Ability to document technical issues clearly and provide actionable information to engineering and operations teams.

• Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a cross-functional team.

• Strong customer-service mindset and the ability to professionally represent Carnegie Robotics at customer and partner locations.

• Ability and willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather, terrain, and environmental conditions.

• Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to approximately 40 lbs.

• Valid driver's license and ability to operate full-size support vehicles and tow trailers when required.

• Ability and willingness to travel 80-90% nationally and internationally, including overnight, extended, and multi-week travel.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport and other documentation required for international business travel.
