Responsibilities & Expectations We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Field Service Technician to join our team.

  • Communicate directly with customers in a timely manner and plan work.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low, medium, and high voltage (up to 500kV) electrical systems, and perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
  • Test electro-mechanical, solid state, and microprocessor-based relays.
  • Handle low/medium/high voltage switches, MCCs, IR scanning, surge arrestors, voltage regulators, and more.
  • Perform Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot testing on cables.
  • Troubleshoot and repair automatic transfer switches.
  • Test low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends, and willingness to be on call.
  • Work safely alone and as part of a team, closely adhering to all electrical safety procedures. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies and conduct safety training and inspections.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Must have a valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Proficient in using tools and testing equipment, including Megger, digital multimeter, Hi-Pot tester, Oil Dielectric strength tester, multiamps relay tester, primary & secondary injection set, cable fault detector, and oscilloscope.
  • Working knowledge of industrial mechanical engines, pneumatics, hydraulics, or diesel equipment is beneficial.
  • Desirable to have working knowledge of power systems, power circuit breakers, and other switchgear apparatus.
  • Prefer candidates with experience in reading and interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Travel is customer demand-driven and can be local or overnight and may include weekends.

Education and Certification

  • High school diploma or GED required; apprenticeship, or armed services preferred.
  • Associate degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power, or similar experience/training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee) preferred.
  • Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 100 lbs. in weight.
  • Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for up to 12 or more hours per day.
  • Acute hearing and strong field of vision.
  • Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
