Job Description

The Field Service Technician travels to customer sites to install, commission, repair, and troubleshoot dispensing and process equipment used in fluid and material processing applications. This customer-facing role includes testing completed systems before shipment, supporting factory acceptance testing and application trials, and providing remote technical support. The position requires a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, clear communication, and the ability to work independently with up to approximately 50% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer locations to install, commission, test, and validate dispensing and process equipment prior to delivery and startup.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting and repairs on equipment at customer sites and in the shop.
  • Test completed systems before shipment to verify proper performance and compliance with specifications.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and application lab trials, ensuring systems operate safely and reliably.
  • Assist with creating, updating, and maintaining technical documentation, manuals, and drawings to support equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Provide remote technical support to customers via phone and web, guiding them through troubleshooting and operational questions.
  • Read, interpret, and work from technical drawings, schematics, and documentation, including hydraulic, electrical, and fluid system schematics.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering, production, and service teams to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, procedures, and best practices to maintain a safe working environment at the shop and at customer sites.
  • Manage tools, parts, and resources effectively in the field and make sound, timely decisions to resolve issues on-site.
  • Travel primarily throughout the U.S. and Canada, with occasional international trips, and represent the company professionally to customers.
  • Support continuous improvement by providing feedback on equipment performance, field issues, and customer needs.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2+ years of experience working with mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems.
  • Hands-on experience with machines involving hydraulics, pumps, fluid systems, dispensing, and pressure control.
  • Strong knowledge of pumps, valves, piping, and fluid systems used in industrial applications.
  • Strong knowledge of motors, gearboxes, and power transmission components.
  • Strong knowledge of vacuum and temperature control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Experience with industrial electrical systems and troubleshooting.
  • PLC/HMI troubleshooting skills, with basic programming capability preferred.
  • High-level PLC/HMI knowledge for diagnosing and resolving control system issues.
  • Ability to read and edit prints in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work in ladder logic environments for PLC-based systems.
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge with a strong aptitude for understanding and improving processes.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and adapt to new challenges and environments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for customer-facing interactions and documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail and organization.
  • Valid driver's license.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in industries such as food processing, chemical manufacturing, plastics, or similar environments involving fluid and material processing.
  • Experience with polyurethane equipment is a plus.
  • Comfort working with dispensing systems and process equipment in production environments.
  • Ability to manage resources, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions while working on customer sites.
  • Comfortable working independently with limited supervision while traveling.
  • Preferred background in controls, including PLCs and HMIs.
  • Preferred technical diploma or associate degree in a related field such as electrical, mechanical, or controls engineering.
  • Interest in gaining knowledge across multiple technical areas and growing into different departments over time.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean shop floor environment where systems are assembled and tested prior to shipment. The Field Service Technician spends a significant portion of time traveling, primarily throughout the U.S. and Canada, with occasional international trips, to work at customer facilities. Customer sites may range from food processing plants to chemical and plastics manufacturing environments and other fluid or material processing operations, each with its own conditions and processes. The position involves working with industrial equipment such as pumps, valves, piping, motors, gearboxes, vacuum and temperature control systems, and PLC/HMI-based control systems. Travel time, including flying and driving, is paid, and a per diem is provided while traveling.
