The Field Service Technician provides startup, installation, troubleshooting, and repair support for custom industrial equipment at customer facilities throughout North America. This role suits a hands-on technician with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills who enjoys frequent travel, working directly with customers, and solving complex technical problems in the field. The technician commissions new equipment, diagnoses and repairs mechanical and controls-related issues, trains operators, and ensures that all systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Perform startup and commissioning activities for industrial equipment at customer sites, ensuring systems operate according to specifications.
• Install industrial equipment and support upgrades, retrofits, and modifications as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls systems at customer facilities.
• Diagnose and resolve equipment performance issues in the field using systematic problem-solving methods.
• Interpret and work from electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and other technical documentation.
• Conduct PLC troubleshooting on industrial automation equipment, including Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500/5000, Siemens, or similar platforms.
• Perform wiring, assembly, and field service tasks to support equipment installation and ongoing operation.
• Train customer operators and maintenance personnel on proper equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Document all service activities thoroughly and prepare detailed service reports following each site visit.
• Communicate technical findings, root causes, and recommendations clearly to customers and internal engineering teams.
• Support preventative maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
• Maintain a professional, customer-facing presence while working at customer facilities and representing the company.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with both company and customer safety standards and procedures.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience troubleshooting industrial automation equipment in a field or plant environment.
• Hands-on PLC experience with Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500/5000, Siemens, or similar control platforms.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems, including mechanical assemblies and moving equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, including wiring, power distribution, and controls.
• Working knowledge of pneumatic systems, including valves, actuators, and air circuits.
• Working knowledge of hydraulic systems, including pumps, cylinders, and hydraulic circuits.
• Ability to interpret and work from electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.
• Experience performing installation, startup, and field service work on industrial equipment.
• Ability to create clear, detailed service documentation and reports.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and internal technical teams.
• Ability to travel to customer sites throughout North America as required by project needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with field service work, including on-site installation, commissioning, and repair of industrial equipment.
• Background in wiring, assembly, and panel or equipment build is beneficial.
• Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices for industrial machinery.
• Comfort working independently in the field while managing multiple service assignments.
• Customer-focused mindset with the ability to train and support operators and maintenance teams.
• Strong organizational skills to manage documentation, service reports, and follow-up actions.

Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based and involves regular travel to customer facilities throughout North America. The Field Service Technician works on-site at industrial locations, performing installation, startup, troubleshooting, and repair of custom equipment. The environment includes exposure to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, as well as industrial automation and PLC-based controls. Work may take place in manufacturing plants or similar industrial settings, requiring adherence to site-specific safety procedures and standards. The position involves hands-on work with tools, wiring, assemblies, and control systems, and requires maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor while interacting directly with customers.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
