Bear Staffing is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for a direct-hire opportunity with a leading provider of modular buildings and mobile workspace solutions in the Kansas City area.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing position responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying modular buildings at customer locations. The technician will also assist with preparing and repairing units at the branch when needed.
The ideal candidate has a strong construction or building-maintenance background, excellent troubleshooting skills, and experience completing repairs independently in the field. A steady work history with minimal job changes is strongly preferred.
Occasional overnight travel may be required, although it is not frequent. Lodging and meals are paid for during approved overnight travel.
Travel to customer locations to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair modular buildings
Communicate professionally with customers regarding service needs and completed work
Diagnose repair issues and determine the appropriate materials, tools, and corrective action
Complete repairs and modifications according to company specifications and quality standards
Perform preventive maintenance on units while they are at customer locations
Complete light carpentry, flooring, siding, window, door, plumbing, lighting, and electrical repairs
Take required photographs before, during, and after completing service work
Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and material information
Ensure all assigned work is completed safely, correctly, and within established timelines
Maintain a professional appearance and customer-focused attitude while onsite
Prepare modular units for rental and customer delivery
Inspect units and identify necessary repairs or modifications
Clean building interiors and exteriors
Wash, wax, repair, and replace flooring or floor tile
Install or replace windows, doors, exterior siding, walls, and other building components
Complete interior and exterior painting
Remove, repair, and replace damaged walls
Assist with lighting, plumbing, and basic electrical repairs
Perform light to intermediate carpentry and construction work
Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas
Perform additional repair and branch duties as assigned
High school diploma or equivalent
At least four years of construction, building maintenance, facilities maintenance, remodeling, or related repair experience
Intermediate to advanced experience in one or more skilled areas, such as carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, flooring, or general construction
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to independently assess repair needs and complete work efficiently
Experience using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and construction equipment
Valid driver s license and clean motor vehicle record
Basic computer skills and the ability to complete electronic service documentation
Ability to read work orders, instructions, measurements, and material information
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Professional communication skills when working with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and branch employees
Dependable attendance and a consistent employment history
Ability to successfully complete required background and employment screenings
Willingness to travel locally and occasionally stay overnight
Technical, vocational, or trade-school training
Certification or continuing education in carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, construction, or facilities maintenance
Experience repairing modular buildings, mobile offices, manufactured structures, trailers, or similar equipment
Previous field service or customer-site repair experience
Experience coordinating work or helping train other technicians
Basic mechanical experience working with company vehicles or equipment
Candidates must be able to:
Lift and carry at least 50 pounds
Walk, stand, climb, stoop, squat, bend, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull, and grasp throughout the workday
Safely operate hand, power, pneumatic, and impact tools
Hold and operate impact tools weighing up to approximately 30 pounds
Work indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions
Work in environments that may include dirt, dust, grease, and elevated noise levels
Safely work around vehicles, heavy machinery, and construction equipment
Wear all required personal protective equipment
Operate company vehicles and associated equipment safely
This position works in a combination of branch, yard, construction-site, and customer-location environments. Candidates must be comfortable traveling between service locations and completing repairs in heat, cold, rain, snow, and other changing weather conditions.
This is a safety-sensitive position and may be subject to employment and random drug screenings in accordance with company policy.
