We specialize in standing seam metal roofing systems, perimeter and edge metal systems, and custom fabrication. Position Summary
As a Field Service Technician for New Castle Metal, you are the backbone of our equipment reliability and operator competence. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, you will execute a rotating schedule to service our six manufacturing facilities, spanning from Norwalk, CT to Baltimore, MD.
This highly dynamic role requires nearly 80% travel and a solid foundation in industrial machinery repair. In addition to maintenance and repair, you will act as a primary technical instructor. You will be responsible for onboarding new operators and continuously upskilling existing team members, ensuring they know how to properly set up, run, and maintain our specialized fabrication equipment. You will also track your maintenance and training work in our CMMS, and provide a high volume of guided troubleshooting via telephone or virtual meetings.
Responsibilities
- Preventative & Reactive Maintenance: Execute preventative maintenance schedules across all six NCM fabrication sites and perform emergency reactive repairs on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Equipment Mastery: Work on core manufacturing assets, including SSQ and New Tech Metal roll formers, Cidan folding brakes and shears, Trumpf punches, and other automated fabrication machinery.
- Operator Training & Instruction: Execute hands-on training for both new and existing local site operators. Instruct them on standard operating procedures, machinery setup, material handling, and advanced operation of SSQ machines, folders, brakes, and shears.
- Equipment Care & Safety: Teach operators basic troubleshooting, daily preventative maintenance checklists, and strict adherence to safe machine operation guidelines.
- Data & Asset Tracking: Utilize MaintainX CMMS via mobile/tablet to log all maintenance activities, training sessions completed, parts used, machine downtime, and inspection notes.
- Inventory & Support: Track parts inventory across sites, communicate part replacement needs proactively , and act as the primary technical resource for site managers regarding equipment performance, operator efficiency, and production optimization.
- Travel: Manage a fluid travel schedule to ensure consistent maintenance and training coverage across all six regional facilities, remaining comfortable with extensive travel and driving between sites.
Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Experience: Proven experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing manufacturing equipment , with a strong baseline competency in electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. (Specific machinery training will be provided) .
- Instructional Skills: Demonstrated ability or strong aptitude to teach, mentor, and train others. Experience creating an instructional environment for new hires and seasoned operators alike is highly preferred.
- Equipment Familiarity: Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication machinery—specifically SSQ roll formers, folders, brakes, and shears—is a major plus.
- Digital Tools: Experience with CMMS platforms (MaintainX a plus).
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively train local machine operators, guide remote troubleshooting, and clearly report machinery health to management.
- Travel & Licensing: Ability and willingness to travel nearly 80% of the time to support our regional footprint. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
