Position OverviewWheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced
Field Service Technician Manufacturing to support the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of power distribution equipment at customer locations.
This is a
100% travel position requiring frequent travel throughout assigned service areas, including overnight stays. The ideal candidate has a strong electrical and mechanical background, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in customer-facing field environments.
This role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, field service, and product teams to ensure installed equipment operates safely, reliably, and according to established quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Travel to customer sites to support equipment installation, start-up, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Work independently or as part of a field service team to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
- Diagnose, repair, adjust, and configure electrical and electromechanical equipment.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, power studies, bills of material (BOMs), specifications, and equipment documentation.
- Utilize standard and specialized electrical test equipment to diagnose, program, troubleshoot, and repair installed equipment.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Field Services, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams to address technical, quality, and warranty concerns.
- Support equipment upgrades, modifications, and configuration changes in the field.
- Identify and document manufacturing quality issues and support engineering change requests.
- Complete field service reports and accurately document technical findings, repairs, resolutions, and equipment conditions.
- Maintain and update required safety documentation and customer or company maintenance management systems.
- Assist engineering teams with collecting field data and technical information required to develop or update technical documentation.
- Use mechanical skills to install, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair electromechanical components and assemblies.
- Support service-related sales efforts by collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams to develop customer solutions.
- Monitor production or service activities and provide timely status updates to appropriate stakeholders.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism while interacting with customers and site personnel.
- Follow all company, customer, and jobsite safety requirements and procedures.
- Perform additional field service duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications- Two-year technical degree and a minimum of 2 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience.
- Ability and willingness to travel 100% throughout assigned service areas, including overnight stays as required.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, power studies, equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
- Ability to read and understand equipment operating, service, and repair manuals.
- Experience using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to install, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair electromechanical equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare accurate technical and field service reports.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to technical detail.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize customer needs, and respond with a sense of urgency.
- Valid drivers license.
- Ability to operate company-owned and/or rental vehicles and meet applicable insurance requirements.
- Ability to comply with all company, customer, administrative, and safety policies.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous field service experience within a manufacturing, electrical equipment, or power distribution environment.
- Experience installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, or repairing power distribution equipment.
- Experience working directly with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve field issues.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Experience supporting equipment quality, warranty, or engineering change activities.
Physical Requirements- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in customer facilities, manufacturing environments, and active jobsites.
- Ability to perform physical activities associated with equipment installation, inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to travel extensively and accommodate overnight stays.
Work EnvironmentThis is a highly travel-intensive, customer-facing field position. Work will primarily take place at customer facilities and project sites throughout assigned service areas. The Field Service Technician must be comfortable working independently, adapting to changing site conditions, and maintaining strict adherence to applicable safety requirements.
