This is a great opportunity to get a foot in the door with a rapidly growing company. The owner would be training you through your first 90 days, then keep you as a permanent employee. Once you're a permanent employee you'd be set up with a work truck and tool set.
Gate Automation Technician Trainee (Contract-to-Hire)
Company Overview
Marksman Gate LLC is a Boston-based company specializing in automated gate systems, access control solutions, and commercial barrier systems. We install, repair, and maintain automated gates for residential communities, commercial properties, parking facilities, and security-sensitive locations.
We are seeking a reliable and mechanically inclined Gate Automation Technician Trainee to join our team through a 180-day contract-to-hire arrangement via a staffing agency.
Position Overview
The Gate Automation Technician Trainee will assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of automated gate systems, access control equipment, and related electrical/mechanical components. This role is designed for individuals who are mechanically inclined and eager to learn a specialized trade.
The trainee will work directly with an experienced technician and receive hands-on training in automated gate systems, electrical troubleshooting, and access control technologies.

Full-time
Monday – Friday
Typical hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
(Some flexibility may be required depending on job schedules)
Contract-to-Perm Structure
• Contractor provided through staffing agency
• 180-day contract period
• Opportunity for full-time hire with Marksman Gate after successful completion of contract period
Responsibilities
• Assist with installation of automated gate operators, barrier arms, and access control systems
• Support troubleshooting and repair of gate motors, loop detectors, intercoms, keypads, and sensors
• Assist with running conduit, wiring, and low-voltage electrical connections
• Help with mechanical assembly and mounting of gate operators and related hardware
• Load and unload equipment and materials at job sites
• Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles
• Follow safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
• Document work performed and assist with job completion reports
Qualifications
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn a skilled trade
• Basic familiarity with tools and construction environments
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Valid driver's license
• Reliable transportation to job sites
• Strong work ethic and punctuality
Preferred Backgrounds (Not Required)
Candidates with experience in any of the following industries are strongly preferred:
• Garage door installation/repair
• Fence installation
• Electrical helper or apprentice
• Access control or security systems
• Locksmith work
• Construction or mechanical trades
Technical Skills (Helpful but Not Required)
• Basic electrical knowledge (low voltage or 120V)
• Use of power tools and hand tools
• Basic troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read simple wiring diagrams
Physical Requirements
• Lift and carry 50+ lbs
• Work outdoors year-round
• Climb ladders and work on construction sites
• Use power tools and hand tools safely
Training Provided
The trainee will receive hands-on training in:
• Automated gate operators
• Loop detection systems
• Access control systems
• Basic electrical troubleshooting
• Gate safety standards and compliance
