    A Snapshot of Your DayField Service Technician - SYNCON is responsible for the environmentally safe execution of field service activities for Synchronous Condenser (SYNCON) stations, including rotating machine systems, excitation systems, generator step-up transformers, protection and control systems, auxiliary systems, cooling systems, lube oil systems, relay panels, local HMI, and associated substation equipment. This role executes technical field assignments involving preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, inspections, repairs, outage support, and customer site support for SYNCON assets. The position may recommend corrective actions or modified procedures to improve equipment reliability, service execution, field operations, and customer satisfaction. The role may be assigned individually or as part of a larger electrical substation, power plant, FACTS/HVDC, or Grid Technologies service project. Reports directly to the Field Service Manager.Often requires extensive travel and non-standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental and site conditions, including planned outages, emergency support, and customer-driven schedules.How You'll Make an Impact Perform on-site commissioning, preventive maintenance, warranty repairs, and troubleshooting for FACTS and HVDC installations, ensuring reliable system performance and customer satisfaction.Test, inspect, and maintain low- and high-voltage equipment, including AC/DC circuits, battery systems, protection and control systems, transformers, reactors, capacitor banks, switchgear, and cooling systems.Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, protection, control, and automation system issues while adhering to safety, quality, and operational standards.Develop and maintain commissioning, testing, and service documentation, including technical reports, progress updates, and maintenance records.Plan and coordinate field activities, outage schedules, and resource requirements, independently managing work priorities and ensuring compliance with established proceduresServe as the primary on-site customer representative, collaborating with customers and internal teams, driving process and design improvements, and mentoring junior engineers on protection and control applications.What You Bring Associate's Degree or Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field, combined with 5-7+ years of hands-on experience in high-voltage system commissioning, testing, maintenance, and field service environments.Strong technical expertise with FACTS, HVDC, substation automation, SCADA systems, protective relays (SEL or similar), electrical control and protection systems, and low-voltage AC/DC circuits. Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, protection and control drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to support commissioning and troubleshooting activities.Advanced troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills, with experience resolving complex system issues using specialized electrical test equipment and industry-standard methodologies.Demonstrated ability to document service activities, prepare technical reports, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, build strong customer relationships, collaborate effectively with engineering and project teams, and mentor junior technicians and engineers.Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
