Field Service Technician
Machine Tool Service & Support

Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of advanced CNC machine tools and manufacturing systems. This hands-on role is ideal for a technically driven professional with experience supporting complex machine tool equipment in both customer-facing and manufacturing environments.

The Field Service Technician will perform diagnostics, machine alignments, acceptance testing, commissioning activities, and customer training while ensuring optimal machine performance and customer satisfaction. When not traveling to customer sites, this individual will support service operations, machine troubleshooting, rebuild activities, and technical projects at the company’s headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair CNC machine tools and related equipment.
  • Interpret and troubleshoot electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic systems, and machine documentation.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo, and motion control systems.
  • Perform machine leveling, alignment, and geometric accuracy verification.
  • Troubleshoot and repair spindle assemblies, gearboxes, axis drive systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Conduct mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on open-loop and closed-loop CNC control systems.
  • Perform CNC geometry corrections, positioning compensation, and machine calibration.
  • Configure and troubleshoot 5-axis machine functions, including Traori applications.
  • Troubleshoot automatic tool changers, tool management systems, and machine automation components.
  • Utilize laser measurement equipment to verify positioning accuracy, straightness, and machine geometry.
  • Perform machine commissioning, customer acceptance testing, and equipment validation.
  • Deliver customer training on machine operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians and service personnel.
  • Document service activities and provide detailed technical reports.
  • Communicate equipment performance concerns, improvement opportunities, and customer feedback to management.
  • Support machine service, rebuild, troubleshooting, and technical projects at the Rockford facility when not deployed to customer sites.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support customer installations, service calls, and field assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in CNC machine tool service, maintenance, or field service support.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex CNC machinery and manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and fluid system diagrams.
  • Experience with precision measurement equipment, diagnostic tools, and machine calibration processes.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with standard software applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service mindset and professional communication abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules based on customer and project demands.

Location & Travel Requirements

  • Rockford, Illinois
  • Up to 85% domestic and international travel
  • Must be able to support industrial manufacturing and customer production environments
  • Headquarters-based role when not assigned to customer travel

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: $24 - $43 p/hour (Annual Equivalent $49,000 – $89,000)
    • Competitive Daily Per Diem while traveling $150 plus p/day
