Summary

This requisition expires on July 27, 2026, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date.

Responsible for the collection, analysis, and storage of data collected in the field to maintain a quality water, wastewater, and stormwater system.

Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES

  • Perform field work in all types of weather and on various surfaces including entry to sanitary sewer and stormwater manholes or other confined spaces.
  • Use technical equipment to monitor, record, and calculate the performance of the stormwater, water distribution, and wastewater collection system.
  • Work with field crews to install/repair/inspect the wastewater and stormwater system.
  • Handle external customer inquiries.
  • Organize and file paperwork, drawings, and research projects.
  • Assist in the repair of technical equipment.
  • Assist in surveying functions using GPS or similar systems.
  • Use computer programs such as Ofiice365, ArcMap, Pioneer, Telog, and FloWare to input, retrieve, and manage data.
  • Inspect vehicles to ensure maintenance needs are identified and addressed.
  • Maintain on-call availability for after hour emergencies.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and,
  • Two (2) years' experience in water utilities, public works construction or inspection, or related field; and,
  • Must have or obtain a valid Wastewater Collections Class I license from TCEQ within 18 months of employment.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local Government laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Civil or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Water Utilities.
  • Skill at the intermediate level, working with applicable Microsoft Office 365 products, and other software systems to complete work.
  • Skill in drafting or mapping applications, such as Esri ArcMap or AutoCAD.
  • Skill in use of technical equipment.
  • Skill in mechanical repair to technical equipment.
  • Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement and a good driving record OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must have or obtain a valid Wastewater Collections Class I license from TCEQ within 18 months of employment.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the City's Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as directed after employment.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

SAFETY

  • Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, as appropriate and/or notify leadership immediately of needed repairs.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to leadership.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; use of hand and power tools, standard electrical equipment, and use of motor vehicle; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) issued by City of Denton that may include gloves, hard hat, safety goggles/eye protection, hearing protection, respiratory protection, steel-toed boots, and uniforms.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent walking, lifting, carrying, climbing, balancing, reaching, and repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse.
  • Lifting more than 100 pounds and carrying more than 50 pounds.
  • Environment: Works inside outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, noise, dust, no/low light, insects, poison oak/ivy, debris, confined spaces, mold, chemicals, odors, heights, potentially hazardous conditions, steep slopes, uneven ground, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travel to City of Denton buildings and various job sites within the City of Denton.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work after normal business hours, holidays, and weekends, as needed. Must be able to work overtime, as needed. Must be able to respond to call-in within 30 minutes and be responsible for call when your name comes up on rotation list. Must be available to be on stand-by and work emergency callouts.
