We are currently seeking a Field Technician to join a rail maintenance team in Bronx, NY.
Position SummaryAs a Field Technician, you will perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, testing, repairs, modifications, and commissioning activities on rail cars. This position plays a key role in ensuring rail vehicles meet quality, safety, and performance standards before entering service. The ideal candidate has strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills and is comfortable working independently in a rail yard environment.
ResponsibilitiesPerform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, and maintenance on rail cars.
Work on rail cars during final assembly, commissioning, warranty, and field service activities.
Utilize hand tools, power tools, multi-meters, and PC-based diagnostic equipment.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, piping diagrams, and technical manuals.
Perform testing on rail car systems including:HVAC
Braking Systems
Propulsion Systems
Communication Systems
Toilet Systems
Trainline Systems
Signal Systems
Automatic Train Control (ATC)
Functional Testing
Hipot Testing
Wiring Continuity Testing
Pneumatic Leakage Testing
Dynamic Testing
Burn-In Testing
Assist engineering with product testing and validation when required.
Interact professionally with customers and provide technical support.
Complete test reports, maintenance documentation, and repair records accurately.
Lead work assignments and provide guidance to Rail Car Technicians and Function Test Technicians.
Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and vendors to resolve technical issues.
Enter discrepancies into the maintenance database and accurately report labor hours.
QualificationsPrevious experience in electrical or mechanical testing, troubleshooting, or maintenance.
High school diploma or GED required; technical school or Associate's Degree in Engineering or a related field preferred.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and mechanical drawings.
Experience using hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment.
Experience with multi-meters, oscilloscopes, chart recorders, network analyzers, or similar diagnostic equipment.
Ability to download and analyze data using portable test equipment.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based reporting systems.
Ability to work independently and lead technical assignments.
Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs and lift up to 40 pounds.
Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in an active rail yard.
Willingness to travel for field assignments when required.
Work EnvironmentThis position is based in an active rail maintenance facility in Bronx, NY and involves both indoor and outdoor work. Candidates must be committed to following all safety procedures while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.
