JOB SUMMARY:

The Field Technician will (i) lead soil greenhouse gas flux measurements using an automated multi-chamber LI-COR system and smart chambers, and (ii) lead soil and plant sampling and process samples for subsequent laboratory analysis. The position is based in Multi-User Analytical Laboratory (MUAL) on Clemsons Main Campus and requires frequent travel within South Carolina, including regular interaction with growers and extension agents. Fieldwork is physically demanding and may involve carrying equipment (up to ~50 lbs) across agricultural fields in hot, humid conditions. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

50% - Essential - Lead the transport and maintenance of the LICOR system to farms at weekly intervals, assembly, data capture, and data processing. Installation and collection of dissolved organic matter using suction lysimeters.

30% - Essential - Lead field sampling of soil, and plants, and prepare the samples for analysis.

10% - Essential - Data analysis, preparation of reports and presentations

10% - Essential - Assistance with routine operations of the lab, greenhouse, instrumentation, and related projects as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelors Degree - Related field and work experience directly related to the assigned research area; or a high school diploma and advanced journey-level work experience in a clinical or research setting.

Work Experience - 3+ years field experience in setting up experiment, collecting data.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Masters Degree - Ecology, Soil Science, Plant Sciences, or related disciplines, with field research experience.

Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000 and demonstrated ability to safely operate a light-duty pickup (Ford F-150 or similar) while towing a small cargo trailer (e.g., 7×14 tandem-axle), including basic hitching/unhitching and maneuvering.

Work Experience - 4+ years Independently operate long-term chamber-based soil GHG flux systems, including setup and troubleshooting. Proficient with field electronics/data loggers and flux data processing.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Anticipated Salary Range: $45,300 - $53,000

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidates previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemsons compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Essential Level 2 employee

Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
