The Field Technician - Field Equipment Maintenance Assistant supports agricultural operations across field, greenhouse, and warehouse environments at an experiment station focused on cotton variety development and production. This position is ideal for someone with strong hands-on mechanical aptitude who enjoys working in a dynamic agricultural setting. The role centers on maintaining and repairing farm equipment while also contributing to seasonal planting, cultivation, and harvest activities. During non-peak seasons, the Field Technician supports greenhouse operations, seed processing, warehouse functions, and a variety of station projects to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on farm equipment and machinery to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Operate tractors, agricultural equipment, and other station vehicles in support of daily field operations.
• Assist with planting, cultivation, harvesting, and other seasonal agricultural activities in the field.
• Support greenhouse operations by assisting with crossing activities, plant care, and other greenhouse tasks as needed.
• Prepare seed packets and organize materials to support planting programs and research activities.
• Process, package, and manage seed inventory within warehouse operations, ensuring accurate labeling, storage, and tracking.
• Assist with general station activities and special projects, contributing wherever needed to support station objectives.
• Follow all safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture by identifying, reporting, and helping mitigate potential hazards.
• Maintain high standards of quality, organization, and operational efficiency in all tasks and work areas.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive, cooperative work environment.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn equipment maintenance and repair.
• Ability to learn and independently use computer systems and technology related to station operations.
• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members across field, greenhouse, and warehouse environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and build positive working relationships.
• Capability to drive and operate a tractor safely and competently.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and promoting a safe work environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating and maintaining agricultural or farm equipment.
• Previous experience in farming, agriculture, greenhouse, or field research environments.
• Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
• Experience working in a corporate-type or structured organizational environment.
• Ability to adapt and "wear multiple hats" by taking on varied tasks across field, greenhouse, and warehouse operations.
• Interest in gaining hands-on experience in field operations, equipment maintenance, and seed production.

Work Environment

The role operates in a diverse agricultural setting that includes field, greenhouse, and warehouse environments, as well as a corporate-type organizational structure. The Field Technician regularly works with tractors, agricultural machinery, station vehicles, seed processing equipment, and computer systems used for tracking and managing operations. The position follows a Monday through Friday day shift schedule, with the expectation of flexibility for overtime hours and extended weeks during harvest season or periods of increased workload. The work requires comfort with outdoor field conditions, greenhouse environments, and warehouse activities, along with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing operational needs while maintaining a professional and safety-focused approach.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Corcoran, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
