We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Field Technician to support engineering, environmental services, materials testing, and inspection projects. As a Field Technician, you will perform field and laboratory testing, conduct on-site inspections, and ensure construction, infrastructure, and environmental projects meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and committed to maintaining a strong culture of safety. You will also enjoy working outdoors in dynamic environments, collaborating with a team to solve real-time challenges, and ensuring safety and quality compliance on every project. Important Note: This is a physically demanding, labor-intensive role. Field Technicians regularly work on active construction sites, often in challenging weather conditions, and must be capable of lifting, carrying, and operating heavy equipment and materials throughout the day. The position involves extensive walking, standing, bending, and kneeling, sometimes for long periods of time. Candidates must be prepared for hands-on, manual work that requires stamina, physical strength, and a high level of situational awareness. Success in this role requires not only technical know-how but also a strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a physically demanding, high-activity environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and other construction materials, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures.
  • Collect, label, and transport material samples to laboratories for analysis, following proper procedures to maintain sample integrity.
  • Ensure all testing equipment is properly maintained, and functioning correctly, following manufacturer and company guidelines.
  • Complete detailed reports, logs, and documentation of test results, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, field supervisors, contractors, and project managers, providing real-time updates on job status, site conditions, and any issues encountered.
  • May be asked to mentor and support junior field technicians, providing guidance on field procedures, testing methods, and safety best practices.
  • Follow all OSHA, company, and client safety protocols, ensuring strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, hazard awareness, and field safety guidelines.
  • Adapt to changing project requirements and schedules, including early morning, weekend, or overnight work as needed.
  • Operate and maintain assigned company vehicle, including scheduling routine maintenance and ensuring proper upkeep.
  • Travel to job sites within the designated region, which may require overnight stays based on project needs.
  • Flexibility to work variable schedules, including early mornings, weekends, overtime, and potential overnight travel based on project demands.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support company initiatives and project success.

Qualifications

  • No experience necessary! At UES, we're passionate about growing talent from within. That's why we offer comprehensive on-the-job training to help you build a strong foundation for a long-term career with us.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or coursework in construction, engineering, geology, or a related field is a plus.

  • Must be physically able to meet the demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, kneeling, crawling, balancing, and using hands to handle tools and controls.

  • Comfortable working in various outdoor weather conditions.

  • A flexible work schedule is required - early mornings, weekends, overtime, and occasional overnight travel may be needed based on project demands.

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and willingness to drive to job sites frequently.

  • ACI Level I Concrete Testing Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment (we'll support you through it!).

  • Nuclear safety training will be provided at the earliest available opportunity.

  • Strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and company policies.

  • Attention to detail is key - accurate data collection, testing, and documentation are essential to success in this role.

  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals).

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical documents, blueprints, safety manuals, and field reports.

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

  • Prior field-based experience and/or certifications (e.g., ACI Level I) are a bonus, but not required - we'll help you get there!
