Job Summary

Join our dynamic team in Cleveland, OH, where you'll have the opportunity to work in a vibrant and growing city. As a Field Technician, you will be responsible for asset management, including processing deliveries, replenishing consumables, and coordinating the shipping and receiving of materials. You'll maintain tools, test sets, and electronic equipment, such as fiber optic transmission equipment, Lightwave multiplexing equipment, and power equipment. Your role will also involve assisting in the installation, provisioning, testing, and maintenance of services ranging from DS0 to OC192.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot network equipment, remove and replace defective modules, track spares, and ensure repair.
  • Monitor and locate routes, assisting in executing restoration during service interruptions and proactively addressing potential problem areas.
  • Learn all necessary systems and applications to perform job functions effectively.
  • Update installation records, log trouble tickets, and provide status updates and reports on assignments.
  • Perform preventive and scheduled maintenance on equipment and critical infrastructure, including HVAC systems and electrical systems.
  • Assist in the installation, change, decommissioning, and testing of Next Generation technologies, such as Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers.
  • Install and test network and customer premise equipment (CPE).
  • Utilize industry-standard software and hardware tools to accurately locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities.
  • Coordinate the shipping and receiving of company and customer materials.
  • With training and coaching, learn trouble ticket, provisioning, time tracking, and materials systems and applications necessary for effective job performance.
  • Regularly provide status updates and report problem situations related to assignments to management.
  • Objectively evaluate individual performance and identify areas of improvement with managerial support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the management team.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or 1 year of relevant job experience in a similar industry with similar essential duties.
  • A combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • Preferred: 2 years of education in Electronics or Telecommunications.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license required; ability to work in all weather conditions.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • 0-2 years of experience in network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
  • Entry-level technician with experience and/or knowledge in at least one of the four major technician disciplines: Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, and Outside Plant.
  • Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
  • Maintain site security and cleanliness.
  • Proficient in PC skills and Client Windows and Office applications.
  • Ability to quickly learn corporate databases.
  • Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize with good time management skills.
  • Ability to travel regionally and/or nationally as required.
