Position: Field Technician
Location: Columbus, Akron, or Cincinatti, OH
The Field Technician supports the Survey Crew Chief in performing accurate, efficient, and safe field survey operations. This is an entry-level position focused on learning field survey techniques, equipment operation, and safety practices while contributing to project execution. The role requires reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to develop technical skills in a hands-on outdoor environment.
Responsibilities:
- Work under direct supervision of the Crew Chief to complete assigned field tasks safely and accurately.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of survey equipment.
- Operate basic survey instruments (GPS, total stations, data collectors) with guidance.
- Assist in establishing control points and collecting field data.
- Perform basic field tasks such as rod holding, note keeping, and equipment transport.
- Support topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layout activities.
- Maintain a safe work environment, including proper signage and equipment placement.
- Follow all company and project safety protocols.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment in good working condition and report issues.
- Communicate professionally with team members and the public on job sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Flexibility to travel throughout Ohio to project sites required.
- Willingness to learn survey equipment and field procedures.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- 1+ year of land surveying experience or similar work is preferred
- Basic understanding of surveying principles is preferred.
- Exposure to surveying, construction, or outdoor fieldwork is preferred.
- Coursework in surveying, civil engineering, or related field is preferred.
