Field Welding Operations Superintendent

Lead multi-site welding operations with precision

Start your day in Louisville, KY, review the day’s line-up with project managers, rally the crew for a safety huddle, and then head into the field. You’ll walk active sites, verify joints and fit-ups, coach welders in the moment, and ensure every bead meets spec. In the afternoon, you’ll close out inspections, log QA/QC documentation, and plan resources for tomorrow’s projects—all while staying ready to travel as schedules shift.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee on-site welding work across multiple locations, upholding safety rules and rigorous quality criteria.
• Lead, mentor, and develop welders—providing guidance, feedback, and skill-building opportunities.
• Interpret project drawings and specs; determine welding procedures, materials, and crew assignments.
• Perform frequent inspections to verify code compliance and conformance to project requirements.
• Coordinate with project managers and stakeholders to keep timelines and deliverables on track.
• Maintain accurate progress tracking, QA/QC records, and site reports.
• Contribute to safety training content and reinforce safe work practices daily.
• Travel regularly to job sites and adapt smoothly to changing environments and schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; welding-related technical certifications preferred.
• Demonstrated success supervising welding crews in construction or manufacturing settings.
• Advanced knowledge of welding processes, materials, and equipment setup.
• Proven leadership with the ability to motivate, coach, and elevate team performance.
• Meticulous attention to detail, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Willingness to travel frequently and work across varied job sites.
• Clear, professional communication—both written and verbal.

Technical proficiencies

• Mechanical troubleshooting aptitude.
• Accurate measuring (tape measure) and layout.
• Blueprint reading and interpretation.
