Finance AccountantJourney Center for Safety and Healing is a non-profit organization that fosters safety and healing for those affected by domestic violence and child abuse, and prevents abuse through education, advocacy, and systemic change. Journey Center is seeking a full-time Finance Accountant with a focus on Accounts Payable to work within the Finance Department. The staff Accountant is responsible for conducting bookkeeping activities related to the maintenance of general accounting records, including, but not limited to, accounts payable, client billing, grant reporting, and the preparation of grant reimbursement requests.Essential Job FunctionsCode and enter accounts payable daily. Prepare weekly accounts payable reports.Track and allocate various benefits and enter them into MIP for the monthly closingHelp maintain all contractual/maintenance service agreement filesMaintain all vendor/credit filesMake copies of AP check stubs and backup documentation for grant reportingPickup and open mailTake deposits to the bankAssist in general ledger account reconciliationPrepare specified grant reimbursement reports to be submitted to funding sources and maintain a running total of funds used and funds available to ensure complete use of funds awarded. Notify supervisors regularly of the funds available for each grant. Prepare any budget, budget revisions, or adjustments for the Accounting Manager to review.Prepare month-end journal entries. Post journal entries into the General Ledger and provide supporting documentation for the month-end closeAssist with annual audit and any fiscal monitoring visitsParticipates in appropriate agency meetingsAdditional Duties and ResponsibilitiesRespect, understand, and promote Journey Center's mission, vision, values, and goalsComplete agency orientation and training to meet job requirementsAssumes other responsibilities and duties as directed or assignedQualificationsMinimum of a high school diploma with thorough knowledge of bookkeeping or accounting requiredExperience working in a general accounting department requiredBachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferredGood working knowledge of government and foundation grants or medical billing offices preferredMust be available for extended and non-traditional hoursMust have and maintain a valid Ohio driver's license and appropriate insurance coverage; Must maintain an appropriate driving recordKnowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal CharacteristicsComputer skills with Excel, Word, database management, e-mail, fax, and Windows application capabilities.
