The College of Arts and Sciences at CU Boulder encourages applications for the Finance and Accounting Professional position! This role is instrumental in processing budget transactions across all divisions, ensuring that the budgetary conventions and mechanics established through the College and Department Resource Frameworks are applied consistently across the college. The position involves maintaining position budget allocations and rostering, processing budget transactions for college and divisional commitments, and administering accurate reporting via internal budget office reports.

Responsibilities will require a robust understanding of University financial policies and standard procedures in order to align budget conventions across the College. This position contributes to the development and improvement of budgetary processes, promotes compliance with financial regulations, and supports initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and long-term sustainability. As a member of the Central College Budget Office, this position reports up through the Dean of the College and provides priority support for Budget Office needs.

Fiscal Oversight

  • Independently implement complex budget transfers for continuing and temporary faculty and staff appointments across campus, college, and department funding sources. Process budget and cash transfers for rostering positions, course buyouts, sabbaticals, subventions, compensation increases, and other faculty and staff actions.
  • Use offer letters, appointment documentation, and funding commitments to guide accurate transfers.
  • Balance positions via the Position Analysis Roster (PAN), resolving budget deficits, identifying funding misalignments, and sweeping back salary savings surpluses in accordance with university and college policy.
  • Proactively identify and flag payroll or appointment-related budget issues requiring departmental correction, exercising judgment in determining when escalation is necessary.
  • Complete all related tracking documentation with accuracy and audit-ready detail.
  • Maintain accurate continuing budget roster for faculty and staff appointments.
  • Process bulk department transfers for college and divisional budget allocations (Teaching Plans, department operating, faculty funding, summer session, tuition remission, fiscal year end sweeps, etc.), following College and Departmental Resource Frameworks and applying standard budget conventions across the College.
  • Support Budget Office with creation of new SpeedTypes to align with standard budget conventions.
  • Process other budget transactions as assigned.

Reporting and Tool Maintenance

  • In collaboration with Directors of Budget, maintain, update, and improve Budget Office reporting, tools, and templates.
  • Support Directors of Budget in developing and maintaining funding commitment tracking for faculty startup, retention, and related commitments.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Develop systems and reporting for communicating position budget concerns to Directors of Budget.
  • As a representative of the college's budget office, attend and participate in divisional and college leadership meetings, budget office meetings, and campus working groups.
  • Partner with Budget Office team to support the development of standard, college-wide mechanics.

Ad Hoc

  • Custom reporting on an ad hoc basis for budget office, college, and division leadership.
  • Collaborate on active college project teams such as cash carryforward, fund 10/11, CCO compliance, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Hybrid Schedule: At least 3 days a week on campus per campus and college policies and guidelines. Subject to change based on the business needs of the department.
  • Standard business hours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM (Mountain Time) | Monday - Friday.
  • Employee may be expected to be on campus Monday-Friday during onboarding, training, and/or professional development events/meetings.

  • A Bachelor's degree.
  • Equivalent experience/education may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required degree.
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education and/or public/nonprofit finance.

  • Experience as an independent and team contributor, with the ability to identify what needs be done and the initiative to address the task/issue before being asked.

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) from an accredited university in business, finance, public/higher education, administration, or a comparable field.
  • Experience in higher education administration with a strong focus on budget and financial analysis.
  • Experience in a department or unit with responsibilities greater than $1 million continuing budget.
  • Experience in addressing executive leadership including ability to take complex financial illustrations and adapt them to the audience at hand.
