Job Summary

The Functional Controller will analyze the operational and financial performance of assigned function(s), create visibility into key business drivers, and provide recommendations to management to improve overall performance. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders to ensure transparency and accuracy of information, strengthen reporting, support planning and decision-making, and drive financial awareness across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own reporting and analysis of operational and financial performance for assigned function(s), including volume, revenue, costs, expenses, and investments.
  • Develop and enhance management reports, financial models, and methodologies that improve visibility, transparency, and decision support.
  • Act as a business partner to functional leaders by supporting planning activities such as budgets, forecasts, strategic plans, target setting, and performance improvement actions.
  • Monitor and drive cost control and optimization initiatives while supporting informed, data-driven decision-making.
  • Review major spend categories and support business case analyses, investment evaluations, and recommendations to Finance leadership.
  • Collaborate with Finance, IT, and cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity, audit readiness, and strong internal controls.
  • Support process improvement, standard operating procedures, compliance requirements, and the digitalization or automation of reports and processes.
  • Promote financial awareness within assigned function(s), including coaching, stakeholder alignment, and cross-functional project support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience required; logistics industry experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial principles, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience building financial or operational models, reporting structures, and performance analysis from the ground up.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, presentation, and influencing skills across all organizational levels.
  • Experience with SAP, Power BI, SQL, and/or Python is a plus, along with strong project management and problem-solving capabilities.
