Client Overview:
Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and communities through innovative programs and strategic partnerships. Their organization manages a diverse portfolio of government and private foundation grants and is committed to operational excellence, financial stewardship, and sustainable growth. They are currently looking to add a Finance Director to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate
$55/hr - $60/hr
$110k - $125k (Permanent)

Position Overview:
The Finance Director will play a critical leadership role in overseeing grant accounting, nonprofit finance operations, Medicaid Redesign Program (MRP) revenue cycle activities, and strategic financial initiatives. This Finance Director will devote approximately 70% to 80% of their time to Finance, Grants, and Medicaid Redesign Program revenue cycle functions, with the remaining 20% to 30% focused on strategic initiatives and executive-level financial support. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical finance professional with extensive nonprofit and grant management experience, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to provide actionable financial insights to executive leadership.

Responsibilities of the Finance Director:
  • Oversee the financial management and accounting of a complex portfolio of government, foundation, and other grant-funded programs.
  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements, funding requirements, and reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports for executive leadership and external funders.
  • Manage Medicaid Redesign Program revenue cycle processes and related financial reporting activities.
  • Monitor grant expenditures, budgets, reimbursements, and revenue recognition.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to ensure appropriate financial management of funded initiatives.
  • Develop and strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial procedures.
  • Lead strategic financial initiatives and provide executive support on special projects and organizational priorities.
  • Serve as a key liaison with funders, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
Required Experience/Skills for the Finance Director:
  • Minimum of 6 - 8 years of progressive grant accounting and/or nonprofit finance experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex grant portfolios.
  • Direct experience preparing financial and operational reports for executive leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial management principles and grant compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with private foundation funding requirements.
  • Direct experience working with New York City and New York State funding agencies and requirements, including DFTA, DYCD, OTDA, and other municipal and state funders.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with financial reporting and budget management.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Finance Director:
  • Familiarity with PASSPort.
  • Familiarity with New York State Grants Gateway.
  • Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance.
  • Experience supporting organizational strategic initiatives and executive-level decision-making.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business is required.
